Thankful Thursdays…This is What It’s All About

The world we live in seems to be going topsy-turvy. It makes me wonder if the values we were taught have been thrown out the door.

This week I watched some of the Little League World Series Regional games. East Texas (Pearland) was playing Oklahoma.

These players are between 10 and 12 years of age but have learned more about sportsmanship and doing the right thing than many adults I’ve met.

The pitch from East Texas’ Shelton got away and hit Isaiah Jarvis on the side of the helmet. Thankfully, after falling to the ground, Jarvis was able to get up and walk to 1st base.

However, the young pitcher was visibly shaken by his throw.

Young Jarvis walked over to the pitcher, hugged Shelton, and told him he was all right and that he (the pitcher) was “doing just great.”

This act brought tears to my eyes and a tremendous sense of pride in these young athletes.

THIS is (or should be) why we have organized sports for our young people. If this doesn’t bring a smile to your face, check your pulse.

I never thought about losing, but now that it’s happened, the only thing is to do it right. Muhammad Ali

That young man was raised by great parents. Children demonstrate the behaviors they see at home.

Kathy it was good to see some kids are being raise up with the values we were taught.  In today's world not are only different values being taught, but the definition of words as well.

Kathy I saw this on the news yesterday and it was so heartwarming to see that young man try to consul the pitcher as he clearly felt terrible for hitting him. We need more or this - WAY more of this behavior from the adults in the room (per se).  Have a wonderful day today.

Be the reason someone smiles today!

So true Nina Hollander, Broker People may never remember who won or the score of a game but they most certainly will remember situations like this.

Kat Palmiotti LOL I hear where you're coming from. It all started with giving everyone something whether they had worked for it or earned it. Still going on.

Bill Salvatore - East Valley I agree. I know these games mean so much to all of the players but that compassion was so moving.

Ray Henson I agree...we do forget. I'm happy that the young batter was not seriously injured.

Grant Schneider exactly. It's a game...period. And what they're learning is so much more.

Michael Jacobs we need to see moments like this to remind us that we're all human.

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty and maybe more adults outside of baseball would take note of this!!!!! Right?!

Carol Williams I couldn't agree more. It is necessary to remind us that we're only human and we're all in this together.

George Souto I couldn't agree more. Just today I heard of another change in what they want to call something. Don't they have something better to focus on?!

Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker we have lost all semblance of humanity. Some people are so focused on turning everyone into lemmings that the individual has been forgotten.  And YES be the reason someone smiles today.

Looks as if good sportsmanship is making a comeback, Kathy, at least with the younger generations, that hits my heart region. We watched AGT tonight and the Magician who won last season did a guest appearance, he talked about his love of family and being together, doing things with his wife and children.

Before he left, he said God Bless America!

Hi Kathy... Indeed, the world, especially through the filter of mass media is topsy-turvy, and predominantly about what's going wrong. I saw this story this morning and teared up. What a wonderful demonstration by two young men, boys, what values in life are truly important. It totally made my day.

That young man has a true sense of selflessness and I hope he's recognized locally for the hero that he is.  Having concern for the pitcher, seeing him distressed, and coming to HIS aid is unprecedented.  What a wonderful story!
