Monet & the Adam Feinberg Connection

"I came to Giverny as a young woman

and hope that my decades of work and

dedication, which I continue, contribute to

preserving the beautiful legacy Monet created."

---Helen Rappel Bordman

You never know who on ActiveRain has a special connection to someone who is an Author who has a personal connection to a story written about someone as famous as Monet. Thanks to Adam, I learned about Aileen Bordman, an Author who wrote a beautiful book titled "Everyday Monet, A Giverny Inspired Gardening and Lifestyle Guide to Living Your Best Impressionist Life."

If you do not know him on ActiveRain by now, his name is Adam Feinberg from Manhattan, NY. Adam made an interesting comment when he read my story on July 28th, The Immersive Monet & The Impressionists stating that a friend of his is the author of Everyday Monet, and Monet's Palate Cookbook, and also Creator of the film Monet's Palate. The photo used as an introduction to this post was one, I took at the Immersive Monet Exhibit in Dallas with permission. After reading Adam's comment, I was immediately intrigued, curious, and wanted to learn more about the Author and her mother, Helen Rappel Bordman. As luck would have it, my local Barnes & Noble Bookstore had only one copy on their bookshelf waiting to be purchased since 2020 when stores had to be on lockdown. The clerk at B&N was quite surprised to learn, the book was still there, and asked if I wanted it. Yes! Of course, I replied. I purchased the book, and it is a treasure worth reading!

I highly recommend the book. The author writes: "In 1980, after considerable dedication and work, I became an American representative and volunteer at Monet's garden at Giverny. After Monet passed away in 1926, the garden slowly lost its luster." With the help, 'along with the those of the curator at Giverny,' and the staff, dedication and persistence paid off to 'help preserve the beauty Monet created.' The Author, Aileen Bordman is also a "filmmaker, photographer, and the president and founder of Monet's Palate, Inc., a company dedicated to sharing the world of Claude Monet."

For alluring photography, stories, and inspiration, including ideas for a garden, kitchen, and bedroom, the book is worth the price I paid. It also makes a nice addition to a coffee table or any other special place you have in your home.

Buying a home was a dream I had when I was a child playing with my dollhouse. Over the years, I have enjoyed decorating my home in a style pleasing to my eyes. Becoming a REALTOR® gave me ideas from observing how others lived and decorated their homes. Becoming a member of ActiveRain was the gift I gave myself to establish rapport with colleagues active in the real estate industry. I discovered a blog post is much more than just a story published on this platform for Real Estate Agents. It is a place where we sow seeds of information, knowledge, inspire, and make new friends from vast members throughout the United States and faraway places like British Columbia.

As my years of blogging go by, I am forever grateful to people like Adam who sparks my imagination and gives me an opportunities to learn more about the things I love and enjoy. Furthermore, I am grateful for world renowned Artists and Authors who share an array of beauty and inspiration, such as Monet, Aileen Bordman,  and people on earth who make impressive contributions to the world in which we live!

So love this story and as soon as I comment, I am off to follow Adam. How interesting and we drove past Giverny on our way to Normandy from Rouen on our River cruise last year. In the summer months it is a stop, and it would be wonderful to visit.

Helen was such a special woman. She wasn't young- but youth radiated from her. I was saddened to learn that she had passed during the early days of covid. I had met Aileen and her mother Helen through one of my closest friends (Marc)- whose aunt was close with Aileen - and by extension Helen. Marc and I have been friends since we were 3 years old- so of course I spend a large portion of the holidays with these friends that are more family to me than my own relatives. When I first met Aileen, I was still working on Wall Street- and Aileen and I chatted about her former days on Wall Street herself.  When Aileen released Monet's Palet cookbook - and was doing her book tour- she came to the Upper West Side- which happens to be the closest Barnes and Nobles to where I live- and they had this terrific talk with a well known chocolatier. I had a great thought at the time- I have a client that does landscape design and she likes to cook and she was going to be closing shortly- so I decided to buy the book and get it signed for the client. The client didn't even finish unwrapping the book and from a partial look at the dust jacket she knew the book and had been planning on buying it. It was a bonus I was able to get it signed.

This was all before covid hit- so things have changed and I haven't seen Aileen since prior to the chaos- and we lost Helen shortly after the start of Covid. It's been an honor to get to know Aileeen and Helen.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - how fortunate for you to know this area where Giverny is located. Your travels take you to some of the most beautiful parts of the world. Please read Adam Feinberg latest comment which in my opinion makes the book even more desirable and worth keeping. I was sorry to learn of the author's mothers passing because of Co-Vid yet I also learned the gardens have since reopened since April 2022. It would be sin not to stop there if you can.

Adam Feinberg - oh dear, I was saddened to learn that Helen passed away during early Co-Vid. I'm sure the family and her Staff and volunteers were broken hearted, especially Aileen. They obviously had a very special bond between mother and daughter. But I believe Aileen will carry on with her mother's wishes to fill the gardens with love for all tourists who come. I can only be there in my dreams, and I am already there. Marc, your friend's aunt must be devastated beyond measures. Your friendship with the immediate family is very special. Percentage-wise, not many people can say they have been friends since 3-years old! I think its time for a get-together with Marc, just saying.... How wonderful of you to have met Aileen at B&N and get a signed copy of her book for a client. WOW! That is indeed the perfect gift and one of my first thoughts when I started reading the book. I mean it, when I say Aileen's book is a treasure! I already have plans to order a few more books for gifts but what I was told is that they are out of print and would need to be special ordered and reprinted. Hopefully, my next order will give Aileen a boost of hope that her mother's work will never die or be forgotten and that Aileen and her talent is very much needed. I looked up Giverny and learned it has since reopened since 4/1/2022 and that the best time to visit is between April 1 and November 1. If I am ever fortunate to get there during those months, I would make it a priority. Also, if Aileen ever writes another book, I would be honored to purchase her latest book too. Adam, you confirmed what I truly believe about family and friendship, it needs to go on and that spirit of love and friendship must never go away. Thank you for introducing me to Aileen and her outstanding book and photographs of Giverny. I was so impressed with Aileen's mother too. She definitely lived her purpose on earth. May staff and volunteers dig on in the gardens to restore hope and carry-on the vision Helen had for the world to see.

What an interesting post, as well as the comments. We can find out so much of interest when reading AR posts and comments, as long as we are open to them. You took the initiative to do some investigating and found a wonderful new book. By the way, in the picture of the open book, is that a page holder and is it a cougar or something? Love it!

Hi Kat Palmiotti - It is a cougar that I purchased years ago and it sits on my table. This was the first time I used it to hold the page open without creasing the pages. I want to keep the book in good shape as I originally purchased it. I absolutely, positively love your comment and observations too! Thanks!!!

Myrl Jeffcoat - thank you for the FEATURE in PHOTOS group! Monet is my favorite too! There is a relaxed feeling whenever I see his work. I sure wish I could have gone to Giverny to be inspired further by his gardens and home. In the book, it states he used the same colors for all his paintings: Flake White, Cadmium Yellow, Vermilion, deep madder, colbalt blue and emerald green.
