Truth or Dare August Active Rain Challenge

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty ~ 512.750.6899

This is my entry in the Active Rain August Challenge. Thank you Ray Henson and Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400 for co-hosting! Here are my 21 answers:

  1. We all go on vacation to get away from it all and have a great time, but I want to know, what vacation day was your worst? When our flight was cancelled trying to get home from Tahiti, due to an illegal airline strike (gas suppliers would not fuel the planes) it was a mess not knowing when we could get out! We had to stay another 2 days at the Tahiti Beachcomber Parkroyal Hotel (if we were going to be stuck someplace not a bad place! LOL!).

  2. What would be your bucket list vacation or, if you have already taken it, tell us about it?  Pictures encouraged.
  3. If your ActiveRain friends were to visit you, would you prepare dinner for them or would you take them to the best pizza joint in town?  What would you make or where would you go? Austin has so many fun restaurants I would find out what they like, what’s convenient and pick a spot. When Carol Williams was here she was staying with friends at Lake Travis so made sense not to meet downtown but at the lake. That is why we settled on The Steiner Ranch Steak House and enjoyed the Texas sunset.

  4.
We all know that Canadian bacon and pineapple are the best toppings for any pizza.  If you can’t have those toppings on your pizza, what would you choose? Pepperoni, artichokes, and zucchini blossoms

  5. What is your favorite ice cream flavor? Chocolate

  6. What is your beverage of choice with dinner; beer, wine, iced tea, a cocktail, or …..?  Wine...white in the summer red when it gets cooler and when out to dinner maybe a vodka Martini (with 3 olives, not dirty)

  7. Do you prefer going to a concert, the theater, or a big sporting event?  Who or what would you be watching? Love going to the theater! Just saw Celeste Barber and was hysterical!

  8. There are so many great festivals across the country.  Is there a special one in your area? Pictures are encouraged. Austin has so many festivals all year long. Austin City Limits is a favorite! This year it begins October 7th so be booking tickets if you expect to get in.

  9. What is your greatest sporting accomplishment, hitting a hole in one, bowling a perfect game, hitting the game winning shot, etc.?  If you do not enjoy athletics, what is your greatest accomplishment?

  10. Are you a pet person?  If so, names and pictures are a must! I don't have a pet anymore. We always had dogs when the kids were growing up. The first pet we had was a standard poodle and we named him Mr. French and he was a wonderful pet

  11. What is your favorite thing to collect, or do you prefer to keep things simple and clutter free? Or what is your decorating style? In the past 8 years I have changed to a cleaner, sleek style. "Less is more" is my motto.

  12. What job did you have just prior to making the switch to real estate and has it helped you in your real estate career?  (Courtesy of
Jeff Dowler, CRS). I was an elementary school teacher. It was not my major but fit well with being the wife of a Navy pilot. It taught me planning, patience, determination and goal setting.

  13. When you are writing on ActiveRain, who is your audience and why did you choose them for your audience? (Courtesy of
Margaret Rome Baltimore 410-530-2400) My audience is my market area and past clients. I’ve trained them to read my market reports and also include enough posts to see a human side of who I am and what is important to me. I love my friends in Active Rain and the friendships I've developed are a wonderful by-product of contributing on this platform.

  14. What makes you the real estate agent of choice in your area? My experience, honesty, integrity and giving back to the community I serve.

  15. What is the most outrageous action that a client has ever asked you to perform? I honestly can say I’ve never had an outrageous request. From the beginning one of the first things I learned was setting boundaries and expectations on how I work. Clients respect my time and work ethic and know not to cross certain boundaries with me.

  16. We show a lot of homes in our profession.  What is the most interesting home or, item in a home that you have encountered? When showing a home there was a pole in the middle of the game room anchored to the ceiling and the floor. The seller danced at a local bar and was a pole dancer!

  17. What are your three favorite neighborhoods in your area and what makes them special?  Are you lucky enough to live in one of those neighborhoods? Canyon Creek (I live there) and like that it’s a medium size community with a top rated elementary school, park, trails and community pool/activity center. I like Spicewood at Balcones (I use to live there) and they enjoyed large lots and closer in location.  Great Hills is close to my office and offers an array of homes in a hill country setting.

  18. We all love client testimonials, but is there one that really made you feel special?  We would love to see it.

"We were so lucky that Dorie was our talented & active partner in selling our old home as well as in buying our new one. While we learned so much from her tenure in the business, she also listened & adjusted deftly following many discussions in the very unique & personal processes. Bottom line: our home sold in practically hours not days (or more), & even a complicated purchase (not on market, lease back, 3rd party handling logistics for the seller, etc.) all proved effortless for her. With not only a keen eye for quintessential client service & delivery, but also alertness for the senses of urgency & immediacy in communications, Dorie highlighted to us the profound need for her role along the way. All delivered with good humor, shrewd investigation & classic grace, we were grateful for her nature as well as her knowledge. Thank you Dorie - as we said at our 2nd closing, despite not planning to need to any time soon, we've never hoped to work with someone again so heartily."  Chris and Gary

  19. What is your favorite volunteer work or charity? Central Texas Food Bank.

  20. What does the flag represent to you?

My American flag waves proudly at my home as it represents the selfless sacrifice of countless lives lost in conflicts. It’s a symbol of freedom, belonging to a land of democracy, justice, hope and promise of endless opportunities (if you are willing to work for them).

  21. When we discuss life, my dad always says he is not sure what he would like to be when he grows up.  He is 77!  What do you want to be when you grow up or are you already in your perfect profession? I found the perfect profession for me in real estate. I am blessed to have wonderful clients and enjoy helping them through the process of buying or selling homes.
It’s a beautiful thing when your career and passion come together. I love what I do!

Hi Dorie- I loved learning even more about you. "Having" to stay 2 extra days is a real hardship!!!!   I don't drink often but I do love martinis just like you have them!!!

Austin is such a great city.  I would love to try your special pizza, maybe after we enjoy one of those delicious looking martinis.  Mary Margaret will have tea.  😉  Thank you for joining in on the fun.

Dorie, I really enjoyed reading more about you that I never knew. I'm with you on clutter and "stuff" and less is more for me too, and I've been surprised at how many in The Rain are collectors.

Austin is definitely a place that I want to visit sooner, rather than later, and it is on my bucket list to meet you!

Good morning, Dorie... proof that no matter how well we think we know someone, there is always something else to learn about them. I love chocolate and consider it vital food group... but for some reason, chocolate ice cream is something I can pass on! Supporting food banks is more important than ever these days, so kudos to you for your support of the Central Texas food bank.

Lots of interesting things I didn't know about you Dorie!  Bummer you got stuck for 2 extra days is such a horrible place and location LOL! When I think of Austin I think of you, of course - and festivals.  Lots of them!  As for martini's we were just talking about the last night with friends we had over for dinner.  I've never had one and had no idea there were such a thing as dirty martini's. What is it?  Very fun post!

Dorie I don't know why, but I don't think I would have ever guessed you were an elementary school teacher before getting into Real Estate.

Hi Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker : If you like them dirty then they add olive juice..not for me..I like 3 olives but no juice!

Hi George Souto: It wasn't what I went to college for but they needed teachers at the time and I had a degree so they hired me. Worked well while we were in the service. I learned it wasn't the field for me.

Great entry for the contest!  It's great learning more about you and what drives you. Love that vacation spot. There are so many, how did you choose one?   I can imagine you being an elementary school teacher at that time in your life. I have huge respect for teachers.
