I’m sure this is not a burning question for most of you but in Texas we take pride in our burritos! It all started when Mexican eatery Qdoba signed a lease in a strip mall to open a restaurant. A fellow tenant of the mall, Panera Bread, claimed they had a sandwich clause in their lease which gave them exclusive rights to sell sandwiches on the property.
The case went to court as Panera Bread claimed that a sandwich is meat, cheese and fillings between bread, so it was game on! The case was settled by a Massachusetts judge, Jeffrey Locke, in favor of the burrito not being a sandwich!
Of course a burrito is not a sandwich you would never put sour cream and salsa on a sandwich J. The judged ruled after turning to Webster’s Dictionary and explained the definition of a sandwich comes down to two slices of bread vs. one tortilla. “A sandwich is not commonly understood to include burritos, tacos or quesadillas which are typically made with a single tortilla and stuffed with a choice filling of meat, rice and beans!” End of discussion..... Case closed!!
Now you know a Burrito is not a sandwich.... now chew on that!
