This 1910 Mansion has just completed a 39 million dollar restoration of the house and gardens. It was designed for Alfred I. DuPont by Carrere and Hastings and includes the largest formal French gardens in North America. The house contains more than 70 rooms on 5 floors occupying nearly 47,000 square feet. Don't miss the fabulous paintings, beautiful furniture, and fun things like the bowling allley, billiards room, immaculate boilers, and a giant ice-making apparatus.  For a reserved tour, call Toll Free:  1-800-651-6912.

Hi Carolyn,

Sheesh! Now that's one big house. I can't imagine living in a home that had 70 rooms! I realize this is a very old post, but thanks for sharing.

Well Michael, when your name is Dupont, you need room for all your stuff and all your PEOPLE!  Things were so bad during the Depression that they fired the cook and had the chauffeur drive them to dinner at the Hotel DuPont every night.
