It is time for sweet delicious peaches on Colorado’s Western Slope!
The peach harvest begins in late June and runs through the first of October.
The most desirable Colorado peaches are Elberta, Haven, Polly, Reliance, Hale Haven and Ranger. My personal favorite are the Hale peaches. These are freestone which make them much easier to work with if you are jamming or simply sampling.
Shopping for Colorado peaches in the Denver Metro Area can be challenging. Luckily, my daughter, Erin Bates, lives in Grand Junction which means I can visit Erin and also go on the hunt for the perfect box of peaches.
And while we are out, we always visit the many Palisade wineries. One of our favorites is the Carlson Vineyards. They have some of the yummiest wines. I particularly love their Laughing Cat Tree Ripe White. This blend is made from – yep you guessed it – tree ripe peaches.
I will be heading west soon with lots of room in the cargo area for peaches, wine and whatever else I can’t live without.
