The age-old dilemma rears its ugly head every year right about now - can we wear white after Labor day or is it still forbidden? What’s the rule?
Mention it to a Gen Z-er and they’ll look at you like you have two heads — they’ll wear the color they want when they want…thank you very much! For the record, in 2022, Gen Z’ers are right…the rule has changed – it’s perfectly acceptable to wear white anytime you, please. The “no white after Labor Day” rule originated in the early 1900s when wealthy folks left the city and headed for the beach or the mountains around Memorial Day, and didn’t return home until after Labor Day. During their vacation, they left their darker-colored, formal “city” clothes behind for lighter summer – yes, whiter – clothing. That practice stuck…and became the rule so many of us have heard our entire lives.

We know the "no wearing white after Labor Day" rule has changed, but we decided to celebrate Labor Day 2022 the old fashioned way so you can stock up for next summer...or fall and winter, if you don't still follow the rule! |
