The Beautiful Balance of Blogging

Many people over the years have asked me how I find the time and energy to consistently blog. Often, people believe that blogging takes an incredible amount of time. While blogging does require commitment, dedication, and fortitude, being successful with your blogging is easier than you think.

I learned years ago when I first began blogging here on this platform, ActiveRain Real Estate Network that it was important to write consistently and to learn to balance my topics. So, on that note, here are some of my best blogging advice to remain balanced while you blog.

  1. Mix it up! Keep your blogging topics rotating such as personal, local news & information, and real estate related. In this manner, your audience knows that you aren't just posting the same things over and over.
  2. Write consistently. While there have been seasons that required me to blog less frequently, just staying in touch with our blogging community here allowed me to keep up with the trends and with the people here on ActiveRain.
  3. Re-blog. If you are short on time there are several things you can do. Re-post another ActiveRainer's blog or, revive one of your older posts.
  4. Keep a list of blogging ideas. In my phone on my notes, I keep a running list of blogging topics when they come to mind. In this way, I can easily pull up my list when I have the time to make a post.
  5. Drafts. As time allows, write out several posts and keep them in your Draft mode to use when you are short on time.

These are just a few tips to help you balance your blogging time. I have found that posting as frequently as I can, pays off in so many ways. I have received referrals from my Active Rain family from all over the country, they cause my phone to ring, and my posts ad credibility to my profession.

Best wishes as you continue to write and post here in the Rain.

Hello Paula - like life itself, my level and commitment to blogging has changed (evolved) over the years.  But the words of wisdom you share is evidence of strategy working although "work-in-progress" may better summarize my feelings.

Hi Paula- well said!!! When I started blogging I knew there was no way that I could blog every day about staging. Mixing it up, rewriting older posts, and all of your other tips have kept me going.

The only place I consistently write blog posts is on my WordPress sites. There was a time when I consistently posted here in the Rain.  There was a time when it did make my phone ring ... and I still receive and give referrals to AR members. This platform still rocks in so many ways.

Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist, I say whatever is working, stick to that. But I am so thankful for all of you that I've met over the years here in the Rain.

These are great tips for blogging. I've never been very consistent - the only time I was was when we had a blog every day for a month challenge! I even put blogging on my calendar and then don't do it. Oops!

Thank you for all of the great tips.  I find the most challenging one is to get ahead by writing a few drafts.

Hey, Kat Palmiotti - I love your new headshot! And yes, I believe I did that challenge as well and it was tough!

Ray Henson, you are so right! Creating the draft posts is a hard one to do for sure.

I once adhered to each and every one of your pointers on writing blog posts, Paula.  I've been remiss in the last couple of years.  I need to park my busy life enough to get back down to brass tacks.

I frequently get ideas for the post subject from readers, and I write most nights and leave them in draft mode. But I don't publish every day.

I prefer "quality" over "quantity." I will never become a mass blogger.

Consistency and Persistence are often habits that reward people with success.     I keep saying I'll blog more, but after I got picked up by the local newspaper for a column, I just can't find the time.     Hopefully that will pay off over time with new clients, but it absolutely keeps me sharp about the market's direction.

Top of the morning Paula.  Good tips all.  Funny how often consistency comes up no matter the subject for RE.  A must.  Enjoy the rest of your week.  Mark
