How to Grab Our Attention

Let’s face it…no one wants to spend time and effort writing a post only to have a few people read it.

Whatever your target audience…the members here or potential clients …you may write a masterpiece but if someone doesn’t click on your title…what good is it?!

Titles DO make a difference.

Time is precious to all of us so when we are trolling for something to read, we naturally gravitate towards titles that ENTICE US as Rocky Dickerson said. We want some idea of what we’ll read when we click on the post. Is it something we’re interested in? Will it provide information on a topic?

Many years ago (( apologize for not remembering the source) I read about a site called Advanced Headline Analyzer. I’ve used it off and on for years.

Just for fun, I took some post titles from ActiveRain.

Featured Listing! 5232 Falling Star Rd Tallahassee Real Estate! from Joe Manausa - Tallahassee, FL got 55% which is good!!!

What to know about tiny houses. Bill Gassett  33% …Still good!

How well do you communicate? Grant Schneider  60%!!!

I grabbed an older post of mine I’d written… (and one I should re-do)

Preparing your home for sale in Palm Beach County. What to do before you list your house.  43%

All you have to do is enter a title of at least 4 words and no more than 20. The analyzer looks at the title from an intellectual, spiritual, and emotional perspective.

Nothing says you HAVE to use this or that it will guarantee more readers of your blog. In fact, as Rocky discussed, nothing is more annoying than diving into a post and finding nothing there.

Ray Henson you can't get too fancy with some titles depending upon what your post is about but it's another tool in your box.

Roy Kelley you are very welcome. Hello to Chef Dolores.

Sharon Tara you're not kidding. All around Cyberville, I'll read a title and have to keep scrolling to the end before I realize they weren't telling me anything new.

George Souto it's been so long I don't even remember who blogged about it.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX I found another site like this but can't remember it and must have lost the bookmark to it.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®, CRS it's fun to play around with. Although sometimes, I try several titles and they all fall flat.

Rocky Dickerson Share it with us if you can. It would be fun to compare.

Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker I've bookmarked so many sites over the years and have lost many of them too. I know I had one or two others similar to this one.

Thanks for the informative post, Kathy Streib! That is a tool I was not aware of!

As Sharon Tara mentioned previously, we all must beware of "clickbait". In many cases, the title has nothing to do with the content of the post/story.

Kathy Streib thank you for this tool .  I’ll have to try it.  Also thanks for the link to Rocky Dickerson ’s post.  I appreciate all the postings you do with other members’ posts because there are so many good ones that get lost in the shuffle of listings and market reports that I would miss without your posts to lead me there

I always feel a question makes a good headline, but will try the analyzer!

I agree headlines need to be great.  Tammy tries to think "what will people type in Google" when writing to the public.  However what "got" me about his article is the AI that has emotion about headlines.

I enjoy playing around with a headline analyzer.

But here's my dilemma. Do I go for a fun and enticing title or do I go for a title with local SEO? It's very hard to get both in a title and have it rank very well. They come in the low 20% range.

While I love a good title, I'm getting calls on ones that highlight what's going on right here!

Hi Kathy - I know that the title is important.  Sometimes I hit is and sometimes not but I love the Advance Headline Analyzer.  I have bookmarked that site.

Very interesting post Kathy Streib and the website is very interesting too.  It looks like some of my headlines are pretty weak and some are pretty strong.  I think I'll have to do some more investigating.

The analyzer seems cool and it seems intuitive but I prefer the one to one interaction of human beings if I can get it
