Let me start off with a little background. I come from a business background owning a mini-market with a deli and pizzeria. The Northridge Earth lead to us needing to sell and find a new career. I happened upon real estate and was already 45 years old with no prior knowledge of the field and no local contacts to speak of. I needed to reach out and work each and every lead to the maximum. This lead to me working with many people that seasoned agents would have ignored.
My background lead to me working with Lloyd. The first call from Lloyd was to tell me off for an ad that I had in which he objected to the verbiage. He proceeded to tell me how much he hated my company and Realtors in general. I calmed him down and build a rapport and asked where he lived and if he wanted see home with me. He reluctantly said he would look but would not buy anything. He stressed that he didn't want to see any pool homes.
Needless to say, we went out to see homes and I told him about an neighborhood that fit him perfectly but the only available house had a pool. He fell in love with it and decided to make an offer. We made the offer subject to closing escrow home the sale of his house. It wasn't yet listed son we made an appointment to list his house the next morning.
This is when Lloyd began to show his true colors. He asked me to meet him on a Sunday morning at 10AM. I was prompt and on time. I was greeted at the door and asked to sit down. Their entire family was seated at the table and they began to serve everyone eggs, bacon, potatoes and coffee. They went on eating and talking to one another as if I weren't there. Not one thing was offered to me. Anyway, we were able to get the listing completed.
The next day we had a showing and he began to tell me how bad of an agent I was and how great his previous agent was. He said the previous did anything he asked of him and gave the best service ever. He went into detail on the things he would do and the means in which that agent worked. I asked "if this agent was so good why did you choose to work with me?" He response was "well, he's in prison"
We were now in escrow on the purchase and sale. Lloyd didn't like the fact that I was going to make money on the sale of his house. He called my office and my wife was the only one there. He proceeded to tell her off and said he was on his way the office and was going to get satisfaction. My wife told the office manager and got out of there like a bat out of hell.
This deal got so bad that Lloyd would no longer work with me so our Broker needed to take over. This was a nightmare for the first negative experience at the start of one's career.
