The Next Design Star - Could it be Mikey V? A fellow home stager....

Do you watch Design Star?  I love the show! I had been having a hard time identifying who I wanted to root for in the beginning.  Someone (sorry I would love to cite you but can't remember who it was) posted that Mikey V (the cop from FL) is also a professional home stager....

mikey v

Should the fact that he is a professional home stager sway my personal choice?  Maybe, maybe not.... What I've learned from watching the last couple of shows is that not only is he talented, but he is a really nice guy.  In the last episode one of his fellow stagers, er Designers needed a sharpie to create a masterpiece (ok, it was a pillow).  She didn't have one.  He loaned her one & she won.  She thanked him and said that was really nice & he didn't have to.  He wondered why wouldn't he loan it to her?  In the time when so many others try to sabatage their competitors, what a nice guy huh?

This means that he officially has my vote (at least for now).... GO MIKEY V!

I was so excited about this season...they hyped it up so much talking about how they had "raised the bar" and went on and on about how talented everyone is...I just don't see it? I thought Tracee's room was T-with a capital T-ragic...as Michael put it...lol...and I really didn't like anyone's room except maybe Jennifer...Michael's room lookd good, very clean lines and bold colors but it didn't look spanish at all...Matt's room looked great but only if you knew what it was...Trish seems to be talented but she is a very traditional designer and I don't like traditional...I have no clue from week to week who will be voted off...they all seem to be lacking something?

Melissa- I lOVE this show! I agree it was nice to see Mikey V. help another designer. Unlike Top Chef where one of the guys went out of his way to sabotage the other chefs! I have been pulling for Matt because he's from Colorado, and I thought his platform bed was pure genius. But, I was very disappointed with the result of his Thailand room. As we all know, even as stagers, you have to have a plan B, if plan A doesn't work! And, it remains to be seen who does the best at the TV hosting part. Tracee drives me INSANE, and I agree that she is missing the chopping block because she adds the most drama!

Isn't it great that a TV show can get everyone talking?! When I first started working as a flight attendant (many years ago), everyone was always talking about this guy or this girl and what was going on in their lives.  I thought it someone at our base but when I asked, it was "The Young and the Restless!"  I had to start watching just to stay in the conversation!

I guess it's the same w/HGTV.  I love it and would buy cable just to get it!  I laughed so hard when Michael cried for his mommy after he was booted!  He was a little cocky and sure of himself.  Guess he wasn't as tough as he thought he was!  Tracee looked great in her entrance interview, but boy has she turned out to be a b...ch!  Personally, I like Matt, Jennifer and Stephanie.  They just have that "personality" that comes across on TV and that will be important if they win.  As for the actual designing....I hope it gets better!

Melissa:

Unfortunately talent or not I have learned through this business, sometimes nice guys finish last!  But at least they have a clear conscience!   Wait a minute... Nice guys finish last....or do they?  Time will tell....OK full disclosure, I'm talking about something else...and only a few know who/what I mean.... but I do love the show and can't wait till the next episode.

Happy 4th!

It seems like pretty much everyone has the same opinions here...... go figure!

Renee - I understand what you are talking about, as I'm sure you knew I would... I agree that time will tell.  The one thing the show seems to teach is that attitude only creates drama, but doesn't show talent.  Interesting who the one with attitude on the show is, huh?  Do you find this as ironic as I do?  Ah the similarities....

I'm with you - totally addicted to this show!  I was also impressed with Mikey V from his actions in the last episode. Didn't know (or maybe I did and forgot) that he was also a Stager.  That's awesome!  I tihnk I will root for him and Jennifer. What's up with Tracee???? She can't possibly last much longer.

IRONIC...yes, lately a word I truly understand! Similarities...too many to disclose in this blog!  But as I said then after months of listening to lies...how many ways can I say I'm sorry!@?  Sorry for those that this seems cryptic...sometimes there are WOLFES inSheeps clothing unfortunately only a few understand...  i bought into those wolfes, hook line and sinker and they are making my life complicated...I have, however given it to the Universe to deal with so....I'm sure "happy, productive, days ahead!"

Thanks Universe!

I'm just glad that Tracee is finally gone.  Her final comments, while crying, were the icing on the cake.  Sour grapes and a lack of personal responsibility.

I'm missing out on all these HGTV shows!

I have to say though that I've had more than my share of local 'stagers' not being ethical let alone professional towards myself. There is no way they'd throw me a bouy let alone a sharpie...unless it was one of the knives they've tried to leave in my back!

The back-stabbing by some stagers in Toronto and GTA is disgusting!

All I know is - Tracee is OFF!! Yeah!  I did like Mikey and this should give him GREAT exposure, but he did lack that on-stage personality.  I think Trish is a talented designer - they just haven't given them anything they could really sink their teeth into.  Jennifer is a doll and Matt is such a nice guy.  It's going to be tough, but I think it will also be anti-climatictical since no one really stands out in a super way....

I think it sucks that Mikey V was eliminated because of his lack of hosting skills?  Matt should have been eliminated first.  Trish needed to go.

Ugh.... I had TIVO'd this show but hadn't seen it yet.  So disappointed to hear he's gone.  Grateful to hear Tracee is gone though!

Dane - Of course you know I know what you mean about the backstabbers in your local market as I still have to deal with some of my own here..... most are great though.

I knew Tracee would bite the dust. I was flabberghasted at her method for that kitchen. She's too fast with that paint deck, and stoopid. When doing a full kitchen rennovation, you pick the "fixed elements" right after you decide on a STYLE!

You choose the items that are going to be there the longest and have the least options after you decide the style. Flooring is the next step. There are NOT EVEN 20 in-stock choices in most big-box stores, so that bumps it to priority status. Then, It's tile as your next priority. Maybe 30-40 tile choices that are in-stock choices in a mid-sized city. So check that off fourth. THEN... and only THEN, do you choose from the 3000-4000 paint colors, chosen to to enhance your countertop and tile!

If you can get just those three things down off the bat... it's two days to install JUST THOSE THINGS, let alone install all that drywall. I could not believe the order in which she did things....and the crew didn't help her one bit. I know they all hate her...but it was shameless that no one piped up and forced the issue to find and bring back the tile, flooring, and countertop back two hours after the clock started ticking.

So what the heck was she thinking...that she could arrive 3 hours to deadline with the tile? I don't care if you have 1000 workers...the thin-set or mastic has to dry before you grout, one full day or the backsplash will FALL OFF THE WALL WITH THE WEIGHT OF THE WET GROUT.

Yeah, I am gonna pick a fifty dollar can of paint....and THEN I will choose my $2000 floor, and my $2000 counter. What happens when you get sick of the paint? Rip out the counter, too, because you only liked it with that one certain paint color?

Style first...Fixed elements second... then the less-expensive stuff that is changeable...that's deco 101.

Idiots on Parade.

Now that we're down to the final two...I'm curious as to everyone's pick. Matt or Jennifer?  Reasons?

Matt is my choice, without a doubt. I feel Jennifer is not objective enough...and lacks vision. Maybe Matt is too visionary, but when he has a show, that creative power will be harnessed and his "visions" will become realities. I think he is TOO BIG for this competition, with miniscule time frames and budget restraints, but the drama it provokes insures the necessary tension and angst these types of competitions require for viewers to tune in. Given his talent, should he land a show with a budget and the manpower to back up his creativity, every episode would be a rocket ride.

Jennifer is good, but I think her expertise (paint) makes her a one hit wonder, and I wouldn't tune in to see what she painted on a wall every week.

Matt is a great designer. Jennifer is a talented artist. The show is called Design Star, so, Matt is my guy.
