What's the Greatest Habit to Have?

You could say that the all time best habit is eating well, treating people kindly, or exercising.

Or you could say it's getting good sleep, spending daily time outside, or connecting deeply with loved ones.

You'd be right on many levels. And these are all mega important.

Yet one of the best habits a person can have (that's not discussed as often) is...

 - READING -

Seriously,

- Warren Buffet has spent 5-6 hours a day reading for years.

- Oprah Winfrey has called reading her "personal path to freedom."

And there's much logic in this quote:

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” - Margaret Fuller

Opening a book often is highly correlated with many different reading benefits and success statistics. It's the gateway to both improving your life and enhancing your imagination. It builds empathy towards others. It makes you feel less lonely. It relaxes you.

And studies show that those with higher literacy levels tend to earn more money too.

Yet, people are spending less time than ever reading. Half the country reads 4 or less books a year.

Compare this to the amount of time that most people spend watching television and surfing the web, and you might have just discovered a hidden opportunity to uplevel your life.

So, what about you? When was the last time you picked up a good book?

Science tells us that you'd benefit from an enthralling story or a new skill. So, why not?!

Audible has made reading a background activity as I don't have to hold the book or focus on the small print, and it helps me keep up with the best sellers as I listen on my way to and from work.

I managed a book club for WCR and I discovered that most people don't read much. I think Audible is great for Realtors because we can listen to something informative while we spend time in our cars. Depending on the book, my retention when I'm listening to a book while driving is very low, however. I really enjoyed Shoe Dog, the story of Nike and Phil Knight if you want a good book!😁

Thank you for the suggestion.  I remember hearing of this book.  Sometimes a reminder like this sparks "an action".  I just reserved a copy from my local library.

Hi Jennifer- you're preaching to the choir here. It's so important to read and keep reading. It will open your mind and your world.

Zig Ziglar said "An attitude is a habit of thought." Reading is definitely a habit and so is waking up each morning with a smile and a positive mindset.
