Margaret many people do not realize how much work and time goes into preparing a house to be put on the market, so the earlier a Seller starts the better.

George Souto If we always thought about selling our house and keeping it ready, it would be much more enjoyable living in the house and then being ready to sell.

Every seller I have worked with has underestimated how long it would take them to do all of that ... and possibly more!  It is never too early to start!

So true, Kathleen. They always underestimate the amount of time to get ready to sell.

I will be putting my third house on the market in less than four years and I have found that you are 100% right, you must start early.  This last house I wanted on the market October first.  I will miss it by a lot.  I did not schedule the new floor soon enough.  I should have known better!

Ray, Real life works a bit different than the home shows on TV.

I'm not getting ready to sell my home.  But, recently, I decided to pretend I was.  The amount of stuff, that was put in the trash, or donated was amazing.  Afterward, it felt like a fresh breeze had gone through my house.

You are the perfect example! Go ahead and pretend you are moving. Another thing that works is to plan or pretend to plan  a big party at your house

Oh definitely! When we were selling our last home, we started planning what we'd have to get rid of, put in storage or take with us at least six months before we moved. By the time we put the house on the market we were ready. But it took a long time!

Hi Margaret,
I keep telling myself I need to get my house ready to sell, even though I have no plans (at this point) to sell.  It never hurts to purge and organize.
