Adopt a Soldier...What are you doing this 4th of July?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

Let me start by saying THANK YOU to all the Active Rain Members who have called me and sent emails over the last week since my husband deployed overseas.  A few members asked me for information on how to adopt a soldier or a troop or how to some way become a part of acknowledging the men and women who are serving.

Some ideas are to go to www.adoptaussoldier.org or www.presidentialprayerteam.net or www.adoptahero.com.  I have not personally participated with any of these sites so I am not sure which one to recommend.  In addition, you can also always do something for those who have already returned home as we should not forget the men and women who have served especially those who came home with significant injuries.

I will make this short and sweet as GOOGLE is a great tool and you can find many groups to work with if you want to just poke around.  I do appreciate the emails and requests for information on how you can make a difference.

I guess that while we are all at our picnics and pool parties this weekend I would say just raise a glass and say thanks to all those who have served past and present...and if you have the time to reach out to a family or a soldier please do so as I can say it is appreciated!

If you would like to add to this post any information on how to adopt a soldier or a family please do so!

HAPPY 4th OF JULY!

I couldn't say it better so I just copied it and said it again.  Only difference, I thank you too.  Your also living every breath he spends there with him.

Great idea on adopting a soldier.  I always wanted to do something for them but did not know where to go to do it.

Great program and I love being a part of it.

It's wonderful to get a reply from the soldier and hearing how they are.  So exciting.

Ginger, will keep your husband in our prayers.  Happy Independence Day!!

Hey Ginger,

It's a pleasure adoping soldiers currently serving in Iraq.  I found two sites last year that I liked. One was the 'Cookie Lady" website...http://www.treatthetroops.org.    Volunteers agree to send home baked cookies and other (store brought) sweets to the troops.

The other site needed volunteers to write to the troops...http://soldiersangels.org.  The troops that wrote back requested Crystal Light to flavor their water and had candy.  It is an honor and a pleasure to write to our soldiers.  One of the ladies I wrote to has come back home to Prince Frederick Maryland.  We still keep in touch via telephone and email...we haven't met yet but we plan to.

Ginger, if you would like for your husband to receive additional letters and cards I would be happy to write to him.

Take care and know that we are all praying for your husbands safe and quick return home to you!

Thank you so very much for all the emails!  We are a lucky family as my husband will be home before the year ends...I am more hoping to help those around me who have loved ones that are gone for another year.  I have a great group of friends and family who are just wonderful so please do not worry about us.  I do appreciate the prayers and thoughts as I am amazed how wonderful my friends at AR are!

Another group that you can look to to lend your support is the Red Cross.  I cannot believe that I forgot to list them as well.

I will say that from prior deployments that my husband has been on, the requests for CANDY, SWEETS and COFFEE were always on the list...Just some thoughts!

On a seperate note, I did get a voicemail from my husband this am..I was at the office and in a meeting so I missed the call but he is OK.

Regards, Ginger

What a great cause to support!  I love our military and their families!  If it wasn't for them we couldn't be free.
