Not Taking Hurricane Ian Lightly, But!

By
Real Estate Agent with TOUCHSTONE REAL ESTATE

Fourteen years ago, when I moved to Florida I started briefly in Saint Augustine and made a group of Florida natives my friends.  When you have grown up with hurricanes you might have a different outlook on hurricanes than somebody like me moving to Florida from PA/MD.  They shared with me about Hurricane Parties, what?  Yes, they agree to meet at somebody’s home, bring a lawn chair and sit in the garage with the garage door open and watch the hurricane, really?  I also learned there is an official Hurricane Party Drink, here is the Florida version of a Hurricane Drink.

Ingredients:

2 ounces light rum

2 ounces dark rum

3 ounces passion fruit juice (or juice blend)

3 ounces orange juice

Juice of half a lime

2 tablespoons grenadine syrup

Orange slices and maraschino cherries for garnish, if desired Ice cubes.

Please know I am watching Hurricane Ian hourly and am concerned for the safety of all people either visiting or living in the path of this storm.  We are preparing every day and as the track continues to move east I am stepping up our preparations.  Tomorrow will be “Hurricane Snacks” and the problem with them!

Good morning Dick. Never heard of the Hurricane Drink so it might be a local thing. Can attest to the fact that Total Wine did well when hurricanes were approaching. And, the garage thing remains popular. Enjoy your day.

Hurricanes are fun to watch; when Irma hit Florida, I was storm chasing and was in Orlando.  We spent 3 weeks getting power back on and helping people in need.  Storms are fun to watch, but rushing water in the aftermath gets my attention more than falling rain.

The hurricane party sounds a bit crazy but then again watching a storm is quite entertaining as long as it is not destructive.
