Fall is certainly here - and Halloween will be here very soon!  You definitely need a few pumpkins for pies and jack-o-lanterns and general decorations!!  Here are some of the best places in Montgomery County MD to go for that perfect pumpkin!  Montgomery County is just north of Washington DC, so whether you live in DC or Montgomery County, these are definitely the places you want to visit!

Butler's Orchard

Address: 22222 Davis Mill Rd, Germantown, MD 20876
Hours: 9am-6pm Tuesday-Sunday, Closed Monday

In addition to regular pick-your-own pumpkins, Butler’s Orchard also has special Pumpkin Harvest Days and a Pumpkin Festival. Reservations are recommended for Pumpkin Harvest Days and featured activities include the hayloft barn, giant slides, straw maze, and hayrides to the pumpkin patch. Check out their Pumpkin Festival, where you’ll find a variety of food, pumpkin cannon, pony rides, and apple slingshot with event tickets / additional purchase.

Besides pumpkins, you can count on Butler's for pick your own strawberries and lots of other seasonal fruits.

Homestead Farm

Address: 15604 Sugarland Rd, Poolesville, MD 20837
Hours: 9am-5pm Every Day, Rain or Shine

Homestead Farm is much more casual than Butler's Farm.  At Homestead Farm, the pumpkin patch is a quick walk from the entrance. While public hayrides are available on weekends, they take a scenic ride through the farm grounds and do not stop at the pumpkin patch.  Homestead is a great place to pick apples and strawberries in season, and easy to get to from DC since it is just a pleasant drive out River Road to the end, and then a few more turns.   You have to love a pumpkin farm that has a Sugarland Road address.

Rock Hill Farm

Address: 28600 Ridge Rd, Mt Airy, MD 21771
Hours: 11am-5pm Wednesday/Thursday/Friday, 10am-5pm Saturday, Closed Monday/Tuesday

Pumpkin-Perfect Details: Accompanying pick-your-own pumpkins, Rock Hill Orchard has a variety of fun fall activities to choose from, including two different sized corn mazes (themed after the Washington Capital’s Stanley Cup win), a pumpkin canyon, farm market, and free hayrides between activities. Additionally, after watching their dairy cows be milked by their robotic technology, help the farm bottle feed their calves on weekends at 4pm.

Hi Lise:

This is terrific information for area residents. It's that time of year, isn't it?

Great localism post, Lise. Pumpkin patches and apple farms are very popular at my end, but can't say I've ever picked any produce myself.

I love seeing the pumpkin carving projects that people complete, I remember doing it myself as a child.

Good morning Lise. Nothing like a trip to a pumpkin patch this time of year. Thinking we will be taking our grandson next weekend. Enjoy your visit.

Wayne Martin - I am going to see my grandsons tomorrow - I don't know whether they will be in NYC or CT for the weekend - I should try to get Alex to bring them down to DC so we can go pumpkin shopping - when you live in NYC it helps to see that things actually grown in fields!

Nina Hollander, Broker - I have gone to Butler's to pick peaches and strawberries when Alex was younger - and pumpkins - I've made peach chutney and strawberry jam.  I remember when we went when Lise Courtney was little and Alex was a teenager- he looked at the field of pumpkins and said - Smashing Pumpkins -
