Is The Future Here?

It's October 3rd, 2022. Very soon it will be the Holiday season. Say it ain't so!!! lol Lately we've been hearing more and more about electric vehicles. Even to the point that some States are mandating that 50% of all vehicles sold should be electric (battery operated). There's much talk, both pros, and cons, regarding the future of electric cars and their functionality.

Kinda makes you have some understanding of when the horseless carriage first showed up on the scene. Needless to say, most people thought this wouldn't last long. Think again.

Now we have electric (battery-operated) vehicles. The best known was the brainchild of Elon Musk known as TESLA. When it first came out it caught the eyes of the public and was a sleek-looking vehicle.

Tesla Working "Feverishly" On New Roadster, Design Boss Says

The future is here and we better get used to battery-operated vehicles becoming more popular. Here's a fun commercial on the battery-operated vehicle. (spoof)

Business to be in will be the battery business or electric charging stations...lol

Do we have any Realtors® out there with battery-operated vehicles? I was just at a seminar sponsored by our office. It was provided by a division of MassSave, a Massachusetts company that provides energy audits and does weatherization. They have another division that no one really knew about and that was doing small renovations. The caveat is, to receive the rebate your project must be all-electric. e.g. kitchen reno would require installing an electric stove/oven in place of your gas stove/oven or a basement reno would require an electric zone for heat. Get the drift? The State is encouraging all homes to be all-electric.

Think it won't happen? That's when I think of the horseless caarriage.

Funny, I just saw a headline this morning that stated there are now more electric charging stations in Manhattan than there are gas stations. 20 years ago, people were saying that there was no more land to develop anymore in Manhattan - and then developers started looking at space that was developed, but not maximizing the use of that land efficiently. In the early 2000's, gas stations started to get gobbled up for residential redevelopment sites. I can probably count on my fingers how many gas stations are left in lower Manhattan. A small charging station on the other hand doesn't require a large dedicated tank below ground- and can be put mid-block on the edge of the sidewalk.

Good AFternoon Adam Feinberg It's funny how quickly things happen once they start. We need an electric charging station infrastructure along the highway system

When we bought our new home, we were given the option of gas or electric for the stove. We discovered with some research that an electric stove is a bit more environmentally friendly than a gas stove, so we took that route. So, I can see electric vehicles becoming the rage, especially as the big producers are all planning on having electric vehicles to sell.

Hi Doug= I prefer to cook on a gas stove top. We don't currently have one though. I will say this, when our power was out for 3 days last year, those with gas stove tops could still use them. I'm all for being environmentally friendly and try to do my part. What I don't like is padding the wallets of those who talk about being good for the environment while flying around in their private jets.

Yes Doug Dawes the future is here and in Santa Fe. So far this year I have had several buyers relocating here...lots of questions about charging stations, outlets to charge those Volts. As for my horsepower, my car loves gas. Given New Mexico is an oil and gas state it will interesting to see when we match Manhattan!

I am smitten, I love driving my electric vehicle and hope that I never have to drive a gas-powered vehicle ever again.

Good morning, Doug... I continue to drive my gas powered Honda Accord and I continue to cook on my professional grade cooktop. Not trading those in any time soon. I think many obstacles will need to be overcome before we see a majority of EV's on the road.

Hello, Hannah Williams I recently read a story that it costs $29,000 to replace the battery in a Chevy Volt. Supposedly Elon has a new technology battery that is close to release

There is a national push for the all-electric home and bldg. In Brookline, MA an ordinance was passed that all new buildings must be all electric.

Oh Boy, Kathy Streib, don't get me going. We use gas for heating, cooking and hot water. AND WAS a source of heat and hot water when we lost power for a couple of days

Hi Emily Medvec

All electric will prevail, unfortunately. We'll all have to go out and purchase woodlots and revert to wood...lol

Hi Brian England

The folks I know who have electric vehicles seem to love them. I don't have anything against them just not my cuppa tea at this point. They should be working on batteries that are charged while driving (an alternator you say?) Do you drive a TESLA?

Oct 04, 2022 07:26 AM
Brian England

Yes, I drive a Tesla, it is amazing.  So much better than any other vehicle I have ever driven.  I hear the naysayers and understand that better infrastructure needs to be established but it certainly seems like Tesla is putting that in place where other car companies are not.
