So many things I take for granted until a devasting storm reminds me in a brutal way. Today my power came back on and I was able to have a hot cup of coffee and air conditioning. I knew this from previous storms but I always forget. I may remember this time - every morning when I have that first cup.
I am so grateful for the POWER LINEMEN who are working so hard and so long to get everyone’s power up and running at the sacrifice of their own families and lives.
I am grateful for the FIRST RESPONDERS who are also working so long and so hard and really putting up with a lot from stressed out, storm weary people and yes, some very selfish and mean people. Their jobs are probably rarely sunshine and rainbows and this situation can’t be easy. They handle it all professionally at the sacrifice of their own traumas.
I am grateful for the BUSINESS OWNERS who were able to open their businesses and share food and ice cold drinks and great service.
I am grateful for the INDIVIDUAL CITIZENS AND COMMUNITIES who rallied together and gave away free food and water and helped each other out when needed.
I am grateful to the MEDICAL PERSONNEL who have worked tirelessly throughout, doing what they can, especially with one hospital out of commission.
I am grateful to all the WEATHER REPORTERS AND EXPERTS who kept us up to date on the storm situation.
I am grateful to all my FRIENDS who checked on me and worried about my family and me.
Patience and kindness do really go a long way. Although this one is going to take a long recovery, we have done it before and we’ll do it again.
Thank you to all of these courageous and selfless human beings and if I left anyone out - thank you too!
