A lot of people ask, is the
Lehigh Valley PA a good place to live? I grew up here so of course my answer is going to be yes! but let's talk a little bit more about the Lehigh Valley and see if it really makes sense for you.
The first thing you might want to know is
where is the Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania? The Lehigh Valley is located in northeast Pennsylvania, about 1.5 hours north of Philadelphia, right along the Jersey border. It's also known as the Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton metropolitan area which is comprised primarily of two main counties,
Lehigh county, and
Northampton County
Pennsylvania is a very large state and Lehigh Valley is the third most populated area next to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. One of the reasons why they have all these great place to live, is the location. As mentioned before you're very close to Philadelphia, only 1.5 hours north, we border New Jersey so you could very easily commute along route 78 which runs right through Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton. We're also fairly close to New York, in fact New York City is pretty much a straight shot right across from 78 and depending on traffic should only take you about an hour and a half to an hour and 45 minutes.
The Lehigh Valley is a very suburban and rural area. Oh if you're trying to get away from the city life, this is a great place to live. We have lots of family friendly neighborhoods, Shopping malls, nice restaurants, parks, and generally a very family friendly environment.
Some of the
most popular areas in the Lehigh Valley would be
Bethlehem PA, in particular
Bethlehem Township, Allentown, Especially West Allentown and
Parkland school District. Some other very popular areas would be upper and lower Macungie which is covered mostly by
East Penn school District. These areas offer a very good quality of living, good schools, affordable housing, and a nice suburban feel..
If you're not from Lehigh Valley you might not be familiar with some of the smaller towns, the little places that are in and around Allentown and Bethlehem. The small towns are the
hidden secrets of the Lehigh Valley and still give you that nice small town feel.
North Catasauqua Pennsylvania, is a great little town, with mostly tree lined streets, good school district, it's also known as Catty.
Northampton PA borders Catasauqua, it's another great little small town with a very quaint main street with some cool shops and cool little restaurants. Whitehall PA is right next to Catasauqua and Northampton, is the home of the
Lehigh Valley Mall, those three small towns in particular are very nice places to live with some affordable housing and a great quality of life.
They are also located right in the heart of the Lehigh Valley along route 22.
As far as schools go, we have Allie is home to some of the
best school districts in Pennsylvania, including
Parkland school District, East Penn school district, Northwestern school district, a Nazareth school district. If you research these school districts you'll see they are very good. The Lehigh Valley is also home to
Lehigh University and
Moravian University.
For entertainment and things to do in the Lehigh Valley, you will definitely want to check out
Wind Creek Casino in Bethlehem. While you're in the area near the casino, you want to check out third and fourth Street in south Bethlehem there are a lot of cool restaurants and neat little shops to see. Some other things to see and do include
Saucon valley promenade shops, The
Allentown farmers market located in the Allentown Fairgrounds,
PPL Center right in the heart of Allentown, we can't forget about steel stacks! And of course there's always
Dorney park! One of the best things Lehigh Valley is known for, it's an awesome theme park with lots to see and do!
In conclusion I would say the Lehigh valley is a great place to live because overall it has a nice small town feel, it's not too crowded, family friendly neighborhoods, affordable housing, lots of nice quaint little neighborhoods and shopping, and you're still close to major cities like New York and Philadelphia.
