It's fun to look back over the years and see the significance of certain dates. Here's a few to check out!

♦ 2010: Chilean miners are rescued Oct. 13 after 69 days underground. All 33 survive.

♦ 1997: Singer John Denver dies Oct. 12, crashing his plane into Monterey Bay.

♦ 1983: The first U.S. cellular network is launched Oct. 12 in Chicago.

♦ 1975: Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham are married Oct. 11 in Fayetteville, AR.

♦ 1962: Vatican II opens Oct. 11, leading to sweeping changes in the Catholic Church.

♦ 1947: Pilot Chuck Yeager breaks the sound barrier Oct. 14 in a rocket-powered aircraft.

♦ 1923: On Oct.13, Ankara replaces Constantinople as capital of Turkey.

♦ 1892: The U.S. Pledge of Allegiance is first recited by public school students Oct. 12

♦ 1492: Christopher Columbus reaches the New World on Oct. 12, in The Bahamas.
