Gouda, Cheddar, Tomato Soup and Goats... oh my!
If you are looking for a place in Stanislaus County to spend a bit of time outside enjoying the beautiful fall weather you can't go wrong at Oakdale Cheese and Specialties. They are located at 10040 Valley Home Road in Oakdale Ca. I spent some time there recently with my wife, son, his girlfriend and our granddaughter. The spacious grounds have lots of picnic tables and lots of shade for these warm days.
Oakdale Cheese and Specialties is an award winning cheese factory in Oakdale Ca that specializes in Gouda cheeses. This family owned cheese factory has been making cheeses for four generations. The family started making cheese in Holland and eventually moved to California ending up in Oakdale. Tours of the cheese factory are also available.
In addition to the cheese factory Oakdale Cheese and Specialties also has a market and bakery. Of course you can buy their delicious Gouda cheese and much more. There are several different kinds of cheeses available including several different flavors of Gouda, Edam, White Cheddar and Swiss. The bakery offers cheesecakes, cookies and fresh baked breads. Of course if you are hungry you can pick up a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches and some tomato soup along with some wine or local craft beer to enjoy at one of the picnic tables.
The grounds surrounding the cheese shop and factory includes a large Koi pond and many trees. At the rear of the property are goats, sheep, alpacas and some chickens. Of course you can pick up some animal feed in the store and hand feed the animals. I think that was the highlight of the day for my granddaughter.
So if you are in the area and want to spend a couple hours in the sunshine enjoying some tasty cheese and baked goods be sure to stop in at Oakdale Cheese and Specialties. You'll be glad you did!
