I am sorry to note that one of my favorite actresses has died at the age of 96 (just seven days short of her 97th). Angela Lansbury had a diverse list of acting and singing credits since 1942. From Bednobs and Broomsticks to Beauty and the Beast to the Manchurian Candidate.
I most remember her break out role as Jessica Fletcher in Murder, She Wrote. A show that featured a middle-aged, female school teacher, recently widowed, who restarts her life by becoming a successful author of murder mysteries in a series which ran for 12 years on television. (256 episodes) Her character was fiercly independant and, in addition to writing murder mysteries, she used her keen powers of observation and intellect to solve criminal cases that gave her small home town in Maine (actually filmed in California) the title of Murder Capital of the nation until the writers put her on the road to become an international crime solver.
In 2016, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Release of Beauty and the Beast, Angela made an guest appearance singing her song from the movie (accompanied by Alan Menken, composer of the song at the piano). (She must have been about 90). The YouTube recording of the event for Disney Movies has 1.8 million viewers.
