I've noticed a trend, these days, on the interwebs.
There are ads for baked goods... rugelach, cookies, cakes... and they all look yummy. Yummy enough for me to click on, and click I did. And most of the time, the copy has clearly been professionally written, as the products sound tantalizing.
In several cases, I've been tempted enough to begin an order. This is not exactly an impulse buy, 'cause in many cases delivery is 7-10 days.
As I started to click on the cookies/cakes that I wanted, I was smart enough to check the pricing.
O. M. G. (did I mention O.M.G.?)
Serious pricing that you wouldn't be willing to pay at the best local bakery for baked goods that you could enjoy right away.
In once case, they showed a loaf cake for $6.99 each. Doesn't sound too bad, right? Until you notice that the cake is 4 oz. That's a teeny tiny loaf cake. They also have 6oz. and 12 oz. versions... and one company offers a 3lb. cake in exchange for your first-born, or one of your kidneys.
And cookies for $3.00 EACH!! And these are just normal sized cookies! Not those oversized dinner plates sized ones. I mean for $3 a piece, that cookie should be able to clean my kitchen, too, dontcha think?
plus shipping!
nope.
