I was chatting with a friend the other day and we were talking about social media. To be more specific influencers. We are both very into home decor, decorating, DIY, etc. and we follow many home decor influencers.
We were talking about how normal people, such as myself, see something one of these influencers do and then try to replicate it or get the exact look. For example paint colors.
Some things like furniture and decor pieces are easier to incorporate into your home, but paint colors are not a one size-fits-all kind of thing.
Let me give you an example. You see a gorgeous warm white paint color like BM Soft Chamois on an influencer's wall and think it's lovely. Of course, you want that paint color for your home. You decide to go out and buy that exact paint color and slap it on the wall. You come to see that beautiful soft white paint color you thought you were getting looks like it has a green tint to it on your walls.
It's so disheartening when this happens. First of all, you hate the color, and second, you just made a costly mistake.
I guess the point I'm trying to make here is paint colors are very dependent on what's going on around them. For instance, lighting has a very big influence on how a paint color will look.
Never choose a paint color without swatching it in your home first. Sampling the paint color in the room that you plan on using is the only 100% accurate way to see how the paint color will look in your space.
Sure you can still pull paint color inspiration from your favorite influencers but save yourself a ton of headaches by sampling the paint colors first.
Don't get me wrong though. I love seeing what all my favorite influencers are using in their homes. And I also grab inspiration from them. All I'm putting out there is that not everything works the same for everyone and that's ok.
