I woke early this morning (4:15 am). Too lazy to get out of bed, but too awake to return to sleep, I turned on the TV. Today, Netflix released the movie, “Where the Crawdads Sing.”
The flick centers on the life of Catherine Danielle Clark (nicknamed “Kya” also known as “Marsh Girl”).
Kya is initially unschooled and suffers prejudice from Barkley Cove, North Carolina townsfolk. In 1952, at six years old, her mother abandons Kya and the family, due to the father’s drunkenness and physical abuse. As years pass, Kya's siblings leave home. Ultimately, she is left alone with the father.
It is on October 30th 1969, when there is a suspicious death of Kya’s abusive ex-boyfriend, that she finds herself the prime suspect, and endures trial.
The movie offers delightful Carolina marsh and swamp scenes that tickle the imagination. There is romance, a little bit of violence and loads of intrigue.
“Where the Crawdads Sing” seemed realistic enough that I researched whether it’s a true story. It is not. It’s fiction, based on the novel by Delia Owens, set in a fictional town in North Carolina. I loved it!
For those interested in viewing this video, it is available on Amazon Prime. It was just reduced from $5.99, to $2.99. However, on Netflix it is FREE to subscribers.

I highly recommend it, Kathy Streib . I think you and Larry would both love it.
Hello Myrl - while I have heard of the book and the movie as well as enthusiastic reactions to both, I have yet to experience either. It's nice when choice remains an option. Happy Saturday.

I highly recommend it, Michael Jacobs . If you prefer books, it is awesome too.
Kathy Streib - It was a little nippy in my house this morning. I put an extra blanket on the bed, grabbed a cat, and enjoyed the movie. I think you will too.
Michael Jacobs - Yes, choice is always good. I hope you have a great weekend!

Hi Myrl,
I read the book some time ago and couldn't wait for the movie to come out. It did not disappoint, like so many movies that are made from books. I highly recommend the book and the movie to anyone who enjoys reading or movies... or both.

Hi Myrl,
I did see a trailer for the movie. During the pandemic, we ended up getting Paramount, Disney+, and Prime. We use them all. I already have NetFlix so I will check it out! Thank you for the recommendation. We are constantly finding a lot of movies to watch.

Myrl Jeffcoat - I am happy to hear you enjoyed the book and movie too. As soon as it hit the bookshelves I bought it and couldn't put the book down. The visual imagery, the surreal story that was believable is something I couldn't stop reading. When I saw the movie on the first day it came to my local theater, I rushed to see it. The movie house was fuller than usual. Mostly women; a few couples. I loved the movie as much as I read the book.
Coincidentally, I had FaceTime with my daughter and she asked me if I read the book. We spent a long time discussing the book as if were were in our own intimate book club! It was great!!! Last week, we talked because she saw the movie with her husband. They both loved it too!
Hi Myrl Jeffcoat . I watched the movie myself this weekend on Netflix. I really enjoyed it. Great recommendation!
Myrl, I believe Diane read the book so odds are it is on our shelf need to check it out, Endre
