Fall Has arrived in Connecticut, which means it is time for me to begin my Progression Of Fall Colors series I started Ten years ago.  This is a series I hoped to continue for many years, and have been able to do so far. The first two years the pictures were of a farm which is only about a minute walk from my house.  Eight years ago I decided to change the location for the 2014 Progression Of Fall Color Series to a lake about 5 minutes from my house on RT17.  I tried that location for two years, but the colors were not as good as I expected them to be.  So six years ago I decided to change locations again to a site at Lyman's Orchards in Middlefield, CT.  But once again that site did not produce the colors I had hoped for, so three year ago I decided to keep it simple and do my Progression of Fall Colors blog in my back yard.

This year I decided to change locations once again, and I have chosen a very small farm that is about 3 miles from my house.   I drive by this site several time during the week, and I notice last year that the color of the trees at this location were among the best colors in town, so I am hoping they are again this year.

The first picture for this year's Progression Of Fall Colors series was taken seven weeks ago as the colors were starting to change.  six weeks ago we had several days of rain, so everything was gloomy and not very good for taking pictures, but I did manage to take a good one at the end of the week.  As you can see from the first two pictures I posted at the end of this blog, the change in color was significant in a very short period of time.  However, the change in color five weeks ago shown in the third picture below is not as significant as it was between the first two pictures.  Four week ago once again at the beginning of the week there was not much change from previous  week, however, by the end of the week the change was once again significant as you can see in the fourth and fifth pictures below, because the trees had lost most of their leaves in a very short period of time.  Two past week we continued to have rain and windy conditions, which as you can see in the picture above and last picture below, caused the trees to lose their remaining leaves very quickly.  The change of colors on this site were much faster than the change in colors in sites I have posted about in previous years.  The picture above and the last one below was taken this past Saturday.  Everything is gray know, including the hillside behind this site.   We had rain on Friday so everything looks gloomy, and it is starting to feel like Winter is around the corner.

This is my final blog for my 2022 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middletown, CT.  Between now and  next Fall I will decide whether I will use this site again for my 2023 Progression Of Fall Colors In Middletown, CT.  Deciding on what site to use is always one of the fun parts of doing this series.

Fall is a beautiful time of the year in New England, and even though the last couple of years were better than the previous years, they still have not had the pop I am looking for.  I have become spoiled by the beautiful colors we normally see during the Fall, so I am hoping this year the colors are truly outstanding, and so far it looks like we might have the return of the outstanding colors I was hoping for.  My favorite colors are the trees with yellow, orange, and rust color leafs when they blend together.

Anyone planning to come to New England to enjoy our Fall colors at their peak, should plan on coming between the last two weeks in October to the beginning of November.  It is still to early to get a feel for what the colors will be like this year, but I will be trying to show the progression of the trees as they turn colors throughout the Fall.

Fall Has Arrived In Middletown, Connecticut and I hope you continue to follow my series of the change in Fall colors for the rest of the 2022 Fall Season.

Hi George:

I know I have said this multiple times but I so enjoy this series, and you clearly enjoy sharing it each year. So I suppose it won't be long before that scene might be white?!

Hi George - I am in Florida since Saturday the 5th.  When I return this Friday I am sure the trees will be bare.

Hi George.... well, what you have now is winter "color." We lost a ton of leaves here in the Charlotte area in the last week so hardly had a chance to enjoy our colors.

Hi George Souto, winter is here, and the fall colors are absolutely beautiful. Our trees are still green in FL, then again, they're always green.

George Souto i do love your series of Fall leaves - Such a beautiful time of year!  This year was very warm not so crisp. In fact, yesterday was our first taste of cold. The leaves are still hanging on for now.

George, trees are a blessing to the environment and our health.  Showcasing them is wonderful...I see the gingko trees still in lemon yellow leaves & the Japanese Maples a brilliant red in my neighborhood.  Stay healthy!

Isn't the cycle of nature an amazing thing? And in another five months those trees will be full of buds and then poof, leaves!

As I look our my front window, Isee plenty of yellow leaves on the ground as they have changed from green and left the tree. Still, not as many as a week ago.

I can't say how prolific our colors have been this year too, George! Charlotte's colors are STILL going, believe it or not! I'll snap a photo tomorrow and share with you on our call. It's crazy how gorgeous your foliage was this year. I haven't seen a more stunning color show in many, many years. What was this about global warming?!! LOL

Love your series and I think I shared that I think of you when I wake up every fall morning, looking out at our show here in Charlotte, NC. You inspired me to truly pay attention and I appreciate you so much for that!

See you tomorrow!
