While there are a million things or more that I am thankful for there are probably even more things that I am Grateful that I am not... like being a turkey near the Thanksgiving Holiday. Being our home is already well decorated for Thanksgiving I could say I am thankful or grateful for a well decorated home, that I didn't have to hunt for picture material for this post, and that I have two artist kids (who doesn't have artist kids?) that made the decorations you see here. Timmothy made the turkey above in grade school(even though at the time he was terrified by pine cones: who's ever heard of that?). Tina made the banner in 1st or 2nd grade.
When I thought about being grateful for not being a turkey it reminded me of this (and probably you too if you were born prior to 1960)...
Of course back then O. M. weiners had beef in them, now you are lucky if they have turkey in them.
Back to the theme of Turkey, I was surprised when I read doing research for this post that Ben Franklin wanting to make the turkey the national bird is in it's self a turkey (a load of crap). What Franklin wrote is the turkey is “a much more respectable Bird, and withal a true original Native of America...He is besides, though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage.” So although Benjamin Franklin defended the honor of the turkey against the bald eagle, he did not propose its becoming one of America’s most important symbols.
Enough on being grateful that I am not a turkey. Here are just a few more. I am grateful that:
Money has NEVER been my focus.
My kids always thought they were rich.
A new car or a Big Home never mattered to me.
Our cars have always been reliable and even in a 1,100'sq home we all have our privacy.
I don't have a valuable collection of anything.
I do collect a lot of junk I "may" use some day but I don't need a special insurance policy for it, it doesn't matter if anyone steals it, and most certainly I don't become a bore telling others about my 1800's do-dad that belonged to Louie the 3rd that his wife lost in a poker game with the Duke of Smellyfeet.
Well you get the idea, material things just don't matter to me, my family does and I am grateful that they learned that from me and feel the same. Living is NOT about working yourself to death, it's about enjoying life.
Even if there were not a challenge about Giving Thanks or being Grateful here on AR (NOVEMBER 2022 THANKSGIVING GRATITUDE CHALLENGE) I would be giving thanks left and right for all the good Lord gave me as well as what he has not given me. That being said Thank You Debe Maxwell, CRS .
