I am Grateful/Thankful that I am NOT a Turkey.

While there are a million things or more that I am thankful for there are probably even more things that I am Grateful that I am not... like being a turkey near the Thanksgiving Holiday. Being our home is already well decorated for Thanksgiving I could say I am thankful or grateful for a well decorated home, that I didn't have to hunt for picture material for this post, and that I have two artist kids (who doesn't have artist kids?) that made the decorations you see here. Timmothy made the turkey above in grade school(even though at the time he was terrified by pine cones: who's ever heard of that?). Tina made the banner in 1st or 2nd grade.

When I thought about being grateful for not being a turkey it reminded me of this (and probably you too if you were born prior to 1960)...

Of course back then O. M. weiners had beef in them, now you are lucky if they have turkey in them.

Back to the theme of Turkey, I was surprised when I read doing research for this post that Ben Franklin wanting to make the turkey the national bird is in it's self a turkey (a load of crap). What Franklin wrote is the turkey is “a much more respectable Bird, and withal a true original Native of America...He is besides, though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage.” So although Benjamin Franklin defended the honor of the turkey against the bald eagle, he did not propose its becoming one of America’s most important symbols.

Enough on being grateful that I am not a turkey. Here are just a few more. I am grateful that:

Money has NEVER been my focus.

My kids always thought they were rich.

A new car or a Big Home never mattered to me.

Our cars have always been reliable and even in a 1,100'sq home we all have our privacy.

I don't have a valuable collection of anything.

I do collect a lot of junk I "may" use some day but I don't need a special insurance policy for it, it doesn't matter if anyone steals it, and most certainly I don't become a bore telling others about my 1800's do-dad that belonged to Louie the 3rd that his wife lost in a poker game with the Duke of Smellyfeet.

Well you get the idea, material things just don't matter to me, my family does and I am grateful that they learned that from me and feel the same. Living is NOT about working yourself to death, it's about enjoying life.

Even if there were not a challenge about Giving Thanks or being Grateful here on AR (NOVEMBER 2022 THANKSGIVING GRATITUDE CHALLENGE)  I would be giving thanks left and right for all the good Lord gave me as well as what he has not given me. That being said Thank You Debe Maxwell, CRS .

I get you, especially after having the time of my life living in less than a 1,000 square foot home the past 2.5 years, I'm again reconsidering building that "dream home". Material things do help motivate myself I admit, a nice reliable new vehicle brings me happiness, BUT, that God given everlasting joy brings so much more, there is no comparison!

When I joined my father in the Life Insurance business he encouraged me to get into debt as a means of motivation... that did NOT work well for me Pete Xavier . 🙃

Strategic debt works very well for myself.

Bob you always have a way with words and keeping things simple and to the point.  What really matters to you and everyone else is what is important to them!  And I'm glad you're not a turkey too!

Thank you Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, Phoenix Broker . Sometimes I wonder if my simplicity is what keeps me from getting an AR feature. As you kno0w I have been here a long time, I'm around 79 on the leaderboard, and yet I've been featured less then 30 times???

Why even think about it Bob?  I gave that idea up a long time ago.

And hey I meant to also say - love the kids artwork!  So cool you guys kept it for all these years!!

Now that's a very good thing to be grateful for, Bob.  Of course, if you were a turkey that was pardoned by the President at the White House, that might not be too bad!

I've been pardoned Myrl Jeffcoat but not by the President. My Pardon was paid for with Christs blood.

I rented the least expensive 2 bedroom at the time in Pacific Palisades (under $1 million value back then). Currently maintain prime vacant lots in California & in North Dallas, likely will sell those after some heavy thought. Where exactly will I retire to...still need to think about that!

Endre Barath, Jr. good to hear, I love making people laugh but I can get cynical in my humor and when I do I wish I had not and feel bad that I did.

Pete Xavier I know it is hard to believe but retiring to Minot ND is not a bad thing. Come on up and I will show you around.

Good morning Bob. Long ago the big house gave way to one I liked and the fancy auto gave way to the one that stared when I turned the key. Lately I was forced to update to one that started with the push of a button. Forced is the operative word. Now I can just be me and me is OK. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin I will not being buying another auto until I see if we will be forced into electric vehicles. Everyone who lives up North here (as you do) knows that in the winter we will get half the mileage they tell us. When Cities are 100 miles apart here it is scary to think about.

Good morning, Bob... love the "twist" to your gratitude challenge. And I love that your kids grew up feeling rich... that's the true accomplishment of loving parents who provide a good home and excellent values.

Bob "RealMan" Timm hi Bob... my parents were divorced when I was about 5 years old. I have no doubt that I would not be at all well adjusted if they'd stayed married. Family dynamics are always a singular experience.

Good point Nina Hollander, Broker . As I think about one of the largest homes I sold the wife told me "the more room we have the better we get along". A bad relationship is not going to have a happy impact on children even if they can put some space between them.
