#GIVINGTUESDAYCLT: "THE POWER OF WE"

Giving Tuesday CLY 2022

“I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver."

... Maya Angelou

Tuesday, November 29th is the 10th year of Giving Day, also known as Giving Tuesday. The initial idea behind Giving Day/Giving Tuesday was to inspire personal philanthropy and to encourage charitable giving: be it time or money or goods (or all three) during the holiday season.

LOTS OF GIVING HAPPENED IN 2021 IN THE USA

  • $2.7 billion were raised in the USA #GivingTuesday effort; $5.7 million was raised on-line.

  • $17.8 million people volunteered on #GivingTuesday, equaling 520 hours of time.

  • 10.2 million people donated goods equaling $156,000 in donations.

"No one has ever become poor from giving."

... Anne Frank

WHAT IS #GIVINGTUESDAY: VIDEO

How You Can "Give" In The Charlotte Metro Area:

Assistance League of CharlotteAssistance League of Charlotte: sponsors philanthropic programs which feed, cloth, mentor, educate children and families in Mecklenburg County. Financial donations are very much appreciated, however the Assistance League would also be delighted for donations to its AL Thrift Shop of clothing, shoes, household items, electronics, linenes, furniture, books, toys. And you can also volunteer to help out in the AL Thrift Shop.

Council For Children's RightsCouncil For Children's Rights: the largest child advocacy organization in the Southeast with some 30 attorneys on staff. The Council needs volunteer attorneys and custody advocates to assist with custody cases. Financial donations are what the Council, as well. Check out the Council For Children's Right's Facebook page.

Dress For Success in CharlotteDress For Success: (one of my personal favorites as a former corporate executive)--helps more than 900 Charlotte area women each year to find jobs, sponsors career preparation and retention programs, as well as provides appropriate clothing for the work world. Their needs require clothing appropriate for interviews and office work, office supplies, and of course financial contributions. They'll take any and all volunteer help you can provide in their programs. Check out the Facebook Page for Dress For Success.

Ronald McDonald House Of Charlotte: provides housing for the families of children who are being treated in Charlotte area medical facilities. Ronald McDonald House needs monetary contributions, gift card to local grocery stores, canned meals, toiletries, paper towels. Or you can help out at the House with evening meals. The Ronald McDonald house also has a wonderful "Adopt A Room" program worth checking out.

This is a very short list of the local, Charlotte organizations looking for help on Giving Tuesday and throughout the 2020holiday season. There are more than 600 Charlotte area non-profit organizations looking for your assistance, including The Humane Society of Charlotte, the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, Friends of Ferile Felines, the Home Again Foundation, and so many more. Whether your interests lie in helping children, our military/veterans, animals, educational institutions, health services, cultural organizations, there's something for everyone. And this year, the need is greater than ever.

"It's not how much we give, but how much love we put into the giving."

... Mother Teresa

Ed Silva that's true, Ed. What is nice about GivingTuesday is that it provides a list of 260+ organizations in the area that need help... would be very hard to know about them otherwise.

Joan Cox hi Joan... Charlotteans have raised a lot of money on Giving Tuesday in past years... but since the pandemic it's not been as much as in pre-pandemic years and now with inflation I have a feeling the monies raised still won't reach pre-pandemic levels.

those are some impressive numbers for 2021 - I agree this day is a good reminder to donate and also a good way for organizations to get their name out there. Of course you can still give any day of the year if you choose!

Lise Howe hi Lise... those of us who feel strongly about certain issues (in my case, the Humane Society, for my husband it's Save the Children) we give consistently. But for other people, they need a bit of a reminder to do so. GivingTuesday is a great way to do that.
