I do love macaroni and cheese and this recipe had a couple of surprises in it for me.  First, I did not know you could make macaroni and cheese without making a Bechamel Sauce first.  Martha Stewart does not use any flour.  Second, I had never thought of adding tomato paste to the cheese sauce.  It sounds like a tasty addition.

I really enjoy the interaction between Martha Stewart and her mom.  When Martha says that her mom always added tomato paste to the dish, her mom says, "I used tomato soup." Ha!  I also love her mom's last line of the video, but I will let you discover that on your own.  She is so cute!

And what about that featured photo that is NOT macaroni and cheese?  Well, it is kind of a mac and cheese and that is all I had. 🤪  Also, don't you think Mac and cheese would be good with a few shrimp on top?

Hi Joan Cox, I bet that I have not had mac and cheese for some time too, but I think this recipe is worth a try.  I will keep the cayenne pepper too.  😃

I kind of like the mac and cheese from a box, Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400, but I haven't had it in a long time and I would much prefer homemade.

Oh my gosh, what a great re-blog, Ray! I love mac & cheese, although I don't eat a lot of it. My mac & cheese is requested every holiday so, I do make it then. One day I will share my recipe. I will say that I am tempted to add tomato soup to my next batch - that sounds amazing!

Hi Ray Henson - I enjoyed the Martha Stewart and her Mom video making mac & cheese! Even though a box of Kraft Macaroni & Cheese was 19 cents when my kids were young, I bought it on rare occasions and learned to stretch my budget by buying bags of noodles, cheddar, and velveeta cheese with flour, milk, and salt. I could make as much as they loved to eat and they liked it too. As years went on, I improvised.

Today, when I'm in the mood for it, I will add left my own left over spaghetti sauce to mac & cheese or better yet, left over Alfredo Sauce and Cheese with a small amount of left over marinara sauce. I find that adding tomato sauce makes left overs second time around like a new dish.
