An Unexpected Challenge: Vertigo

On Monday afternoon, for the first time ever, I experienced a severe case of vertigo. If I tried to sit up straight or stand, I had sudden attacks of vertigo. The room was spinning and I experienced nausea, vomiting and heavy sweating.

After a few hours of this condition, Dolores called 911 and the Montgomery County Rescue Service took me to Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center. They did extensive testing all night Monday and this morning with an MRI being the final test before they released me to go home.

I am still moving slowly and have to be very careful but am very thankful to be home.

Hello Roy - continuing to wish you good health.  Any hospital stay is too long in my opinion.

I am glad you are home - were you dehydrated? I had a bout of vertigo this summer so I know what a Really miserable experience it is.  Stay safe!

Wow! Glad you are HOME! I agree with Lise Howe about dehydration. I hope your doc will send you to ear/nose/throat specialist or audiologist to see if those crystals in your ear need to be set back in place. Take good care of YOU!

Roy- I’m glad you’re back home!!  When will you go back to follow up with the vertigo. Please take care of yourself - make sure you have plenty of fluids or try some Smart Water. It has electrolytes

Roy Kelley - I am sorry to hear about your physical condition with vertigo. It isn't pleasant and definitely needs medical attention. I'm glad Dolores called 911. It must have been very frightening for her too. I pray you are in good health and glad you were sent home. But please follow-up with your physician and stay well. You shall be in my thoughts and prayers - Dolores too!

Do they know what caused it? That must have been quite uncomfortable and concerning. I hope today is a lot better.

At first, they though I had a stroke and treated it accordingly. However, after all of the extensive testing, they thought it was an inner ear situation.

Oh my goodness, Roy... how horrible and how frightening for you and for Dolores. Hopefully test results will show this was an aberration... sending you my best, best, best wishes to feel better soon.

This just happened to one of our home sellers. He had the exact same symptoms Roy, but somehow was able to drive himself to the hospital...that could have been a disaster! Hope your MRI is clear and you can go home!

The MRI was perfect and I was able to come home.

I would not have been able to drive to the hospital. I could not even stand without vomiting.

My mom had vertigo several years ago and she was very uncomfortable. I'm so sorry you had that experience. It had to be very frightening for both of you. Happy you are doing better and are back home.

Back in January 2020, I had what I believe may be one of the first cases of Covid.  I had symptoms that matched it.  Also, trying to walk across my house was a challenge.  Down was up, and the room spinned.  I also lost half my hearing in my right ear, and I've never have got it back.  I'm glad you are getting medical care.  That's important.
