Just say the word "blog" to some and the thought is cringe-worthy to a new blogger. Garnering the courage to blog becomes easier when it's a subject already known to the writer.
I've received comments from some asking what my blog is about.? The typical answer is, "A lot of things!" I like to write about something worth reading and to do that it takes a human interest story to capture the attention of a reader.
Blogging with passion is the best way to write a blog, in my opinion. The words literally produce themselves when a topic just happens in your head. One of my blogs took some time so I could provide references, but the story was personal and I was passionate about it.
Getting it right is the most important facet of historical information so time needs to be devoted to including all details correctly. This type of blog needs to be personal in order for it to be readable and found online. If the details aren't reported accurately, it reduces the legitimacy of the written word. Nothing is more important than accuracy on this type of blog.
A blog that is written with passion can be on almost any topic, but if it is to have meaning, it needs to be personal. When writing something personal that you truly believe in, that passion becomes part of the post. As it's read, it should be brutally honest versus reporting just facts. Show opposing sides to an argument to point each side of a discussion.
One of my blogs with the most views is a human interest story, Focusing on Passion for the Olympian Spirit. That post was a review of an article I read by Oprah Winfrey. The article struck a chord so I wrote about it. Apparently, the title and post were interesting to others. In the post, I describe how my niche in real estate (energy efficiency) drives me; it's something I'm passionate about. "What drives me may not drive you."
So if you're writing a blog to be found, I think the content needs to be personal but something you're passionate about and include many keyword phrases that are also tagged. Run a search for key word phrases and try different phrases to gain perspective as to which you prefer and are legitimate phrases for a blog to rank. The words you write will either encourage a reader to read it, or they will pass it by. How you write that post drives your open rate.
