Friday Fun…Popcorn, Hot Cocoa, and What Christmas Movie?

The Hallmark Christmas movies started before Thanksgiving and I know at least one person watching them…right Rocky Dickerson?

I know that when I’m baking Christmas cookies, I love watching “The Santa Claus” (all three starring Tim Allen) or Love Actually.

There has always been a debate over Die Hard…Christmas movie or not??  And if you’re curious, here are the Top 60 Best Christmas Movies according to Esquire.

Over Thanksgiving weekend, one channel had an “It’s a Wonderful Life” marathon. And of course, you can’t forget these favorites… “White Christmas”  and “A Christmas Story.”

So, just for fun…grab some popcorn, and hot cocoa, and tell us what your favorite Christmas movie is!

Good morning, Kathy... don't call me a Scrooge, because you know I adore Christmas... but I don't bake Christmas (or any other) cookies and I don't watch Christmas movies (just too saccharine for my taste). Have fun!

Hello Kathy - I was kinda concerned (but not too much) about being called a Scrooge until I read the comment by Nina Hollander, Broker.  I may not be as much a Christmas enthusiast as Nina but there are limits to my holiday spirit.

I don't recall seeing one of the mentioned Tim Allen (no offense to him) movies and it's been years since I pulled some holiday cookies out of an oven (that's the correct term for that baking device, right?).

Kathy Streib - I have seen "It's a Wonderful Life" multiple times.  However, I often catch just parts of it.   Maybe it's best when served in small amounts - kinda like fruitcake - another holiday favorite.

Michael Jacobs  you’re not a Scrooge- you know what you like. It took me years to watch It’s a Wonderful Life! I saw it years and years ago but couldn’t get into it

My favorite movie is, A Wonderful Life.  The message of a hard working, average man making the world a much better place really is uplifting. I could watch it over and over.

I also love the movie, Elf.  I think it is Will Farrell's best movie (actually, I am not a fan of most of his movies).  I laugh more each time I watch the movie.  I also share Buddy's love of Christmas trees.  Here is one I found in Thailand.  I love the theme of, "Embracing Happiness."

Favorite Christmas movie? WOW! I have watched over 300 in the last 13 months. My favorites that most people may be familiar with are "Love Actually", "Elf", "Christmas Vacation", "The Holiday" and "It's a Wonderful Life". A rare, but highly worthwhile Christmas special to enjoy (if you can find it because it is rare) is "Ziggy's Gift". I do love the Hallmark Christmas movies (I even created a game to play with your watchmate for watching Hallmark Christmas movies), I am now starting to enjoy Christmas movies on the UP network, I watch some of the Lifetime Christmas movies (I just don't find them as good as Hallmark). And this year, the new kid on the block are on Great American Family (a channel I don't get - unfortunately). These folks bought a lot of great talent away from Hallmark (including Lori Laughlin) and are making their own Christmas movies this year.

Remember to play with things like peppermint (from items like candy canes) and cinnamon to create new flavors for your cocoa. I even made French Toast this year using peppermint coffee creamer instead of milk to add to my eggs. And I highly recommend having all the lights off at night except your Christmas light when watching movies.

Rocky Dickerson you really are into Christmas!!!! I watched Love Actually this weekend and plan on watching it again.

I’d heard that some of the actors left the Hallmark Channel!

Christmas is at our house and I plan on making brunch so I may play around with the hot cocoa ideas!

I say mix the movies up with a traditional Christmas movie followed by a new one. The new ones are more formula driven like on Hallmark. Usually involving two girlfriends or two boyfriends both competing for someone else with some "misunderstandings" confusing matters and it all gets resolved at the tree lighting festival and best cookie contest on Christmas Eve and it is snowing. I guess the new ones have people with Smart Phones, tablets and texting each other while the traditional movies did not.....Just sayin....Jeff 😀

I feel like a split personality when it comes to Christmas movies Kathy!  For a long time I was so sick of the same 0 same 0 SAME 0 sappy plot that always went south at about 15 minutes before the end of movie....and then miraculously they got back together. Over and over and over.  So enough of that!

I do have a couple of movies that we watch as a tradition - which we did with family for many years.  The Bishops Wife (the first version) and there's another one that we both like.....can't remember the name.  I did see a new movie last week called 3 Wise Men and a Baby.......very funny and sweet too.  Not at all the same o plot by a long shot, not even close.  And there was another new fun one with Bill Murray - 12 Days of Christmas. He did a great job playing that part...very grumpy!

It wouldn't be Christmas at my house, if "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" wasn't viewed at least once.

Hi Kathy Streib - We start with Hallmark in July!  It is crazy.  Christmas movies are a feel-good experience.  As a family with Ricky and Tristan, we start the season around Thanksgiving with Christmas Vacation.  Family Man is another favorite, and Rick and I love "Love Actually".  Tristan and the family like Elf and the Grinch, and Ricky loves Scrooge.  These are all movies we watch together. Oh!  Tristan also loves all the Tim Allen movies and Christmas Chronicles.  Of course, the classics are always welcome!
