5 Tips for Selling Your House During the Holidays

If you have any doubts about whether you should list your house for sale during the holidays or not, I would say, if you are ready to sell your house, then, you should list it. The thought of getting your house ready to put on the market with all the other activities you may have may be stressful but it won't be as bad as you might think, on the contrary, why not list during the holidays?
Once you made the decision to list your house during the holidays, you must plan and execute.

1- Hire a local REALTOR® you like and trust. Be sure to ask if they will be around during the holidays and actually answer their phones. Your agent must be willing to get to work for you and do everything within her/his power to get your house sold. Since you will be hiring an agent whom you like and trust, you should listen and follow your agent's advice on the list price as well as what needs to be done to get your house ready to show.

2- Do not put limitations on showings. Many travel to FL during the holidays to visit but also to look at homes and they are on a limited time so if they can't see your house, they'll move to the next one. This is true for local buyers as well.

3- Get your house show ready. Just think about walking into a model home, and how welcoming they are without any clutter. I'm not suggesting that you empty out your closets and cabinets, but remove as much clutter as you possibly can. Less is more!

4- Showcase your holiday decorations. Yes, you read that right! You should certainly decorate your house but don't overdo it. Just remember, you want the potential buyers to look at your house, not the holiday decorations.

5- Be sure to work on the curb appeal. Just walk around your house and make a list of areas that need attention. The mailbox, exterior walls, lawn, trees, shrubs, flower beds, and fence. Just a few things will make a great difference. Lastly, the front door. Be sure to wash the area, paint the door if needed and add a few plants that are seasonal.

These are good tips for selling during the holidays - They are all important, but #2 is especially important. If a buyer can't get in to see the house, they won't buy it.

Enjoy your day!

Hello Beth - any real estate-related has the potential of being (or becoming) stressful.   So, I believe, "stress-busters" as you have shared can be quite helpful whenever someone decides the timing is right for them to make a move.

Good morning again, Beth... terrific tips... especially the one about making your home easy to show... once you turn down an appointment there's never a guarantee that buyer will try again to see your home.

Agree with all of these points but #2 really resonates -- of course sometimes it's unavoidable depending on the seller's situation - but if you can show without limitations it's just so helpful

Hi Beth- I love all of the tips but especially the one that recommends that the sellers make their house available for showings. You made an excellent point that Florida snow-birds have a limited time schedule when visiting.

Hi Beth,

Lots of great tips.  The most challenging is addressing curb appeal in colder climates, though it can be done and done with flair.
