One of my family’s traditions is to make sure to see the magical Trail Of Lights in Austin Texas over the holidays. This year it begins Thursday December 8th but they offered a Trail Of Lights Fun Run event Saturday December 3rd which we decided to give a try! We were so glad we made the decision early, signed up, got our slot in Wave 2, picked up our bib numbers and shirts and were ready to go!
It was so fun! The lines were not as long trying to get on the Ferris wheel which I loved, popping up over the city to see our unbelievable skyline views! The kids got to see see Santa and we saw our favorite light displays.
After 2 years of allowing guests to only drive through the iconic Austin Holiday lights display the event is back to walking like the good ole days. I’m so glad to see the walking tour back...it’s so much more fun to be up close and personal to all the displays!

Of course I never tire of standing under our Zilker Park Tree!! There are 39 streamers each holding 81 multicolored, 25 watt bulbs. The double star at the top of the tree measures 10 feet from point to point! Photo by Melissa Stout |
BTW: The Trail of Lights was nominated for USA Today’s 10 Best Holiday light displays and was named one of the best Christmas light displays in the nation by US News & World Report! There are 2 million lights, 90 lighted holiday trees and 70 other holiday displays and lighted tunnels... It’s a magical sight to behold! Plan ahead and expect some traffic.
