What I am and will be doing for the holidays and as a suggestion for those who can afford to do it, is go out to Target, Kmart, or any box store where you believe someone could use some help paying for their holiday gifts. Check out the lines and pick your person and offer to pay all or part of their cost for their holiday gifts or groceries. I am quite sure whatever amount you can do will be greatly appreciated. I realize it's not an exact science so maybe you will have to get into a conversation to see who really needs help paying for their things. There are many more living today from paycheck to paycheck and probably don't have enough money for food let alone gifts for their children and/or family. members. You can also donate (as they need clothing, especially winter coats, toiletries, etc.) to The Mary Brennan INTERFAITH NUTRITION NETWORK (THE INN), Hempstead NY, (or whatever place you can find in your location where you work/live), which provides a soup kitchen for lunch on Mondays through Fridays. Gives referrals for shelter to the needy of Long Island. Offers showers and clothing for those who need it. In addition, houses a clothing shop where donated items are given away. 100 Madison Avenue, Hempstead, NY, 11550.
