Reading and writing were my favorite classes when I began my humble beginnings in kindergarten. Both stayed with me throughout my life. When I learned a new buzzword called Blog in 2010, my ears perked. I was eager to begin on ActiveRain. The year I joined, in 2010, I signed up for RainCamp. Kerrie La Guardia was very instrumental in helping me to get started. She was also the first member I met in person at RainCamp in Houston! Next, I learned that entering AR Contests and Challenges was a lot easier for me to learn about what to write, because I wrote from my heart about my own experiences. However, I still had a lot to learn!
For the December 2022 Challenge: A Guide For Blogging Success hosted by Jeff Dowler, CRS and co-hosted by Brian England, I chose option number one:
What can I do to improve my blogging and results?
My suggestion is to write what you know and know what you are writing about. Whatever you do in the Real Estate Industry, this is your story about your business. Make your blog post believable. Use good format. Watch your grammar and spelling. There will be many people who will write related topics. This is understandable because of holidays, raising awareness, and Instructors are using materials approved to teach no matter where you live or practice real estate. You can still be original and use your personal examples following the guidelines from your Broker, State, Association, and NAR. Make your blog authentic and share your personal career journey or something others could benefit by reading your story.
What things should I avoid doing?
Avoid copying other people’s work, words, ideas, content, photos, piracy, and avoid plagiarizing. Citing quotes or sources, asking for permission, and giving credit where credit is due, acknowledging other people’s work and ideas will lend credibility. Make sure what you write is accurate. Also, if you didn't take the photos, do not take them and use them without permission. For example the acronym, KISS is not new to many; however, I created this photo using Ribbet giving credit to U.S. Lead Engineer who was with Lockheed SKUNK. Note: the last letter in "S" can mean many different things other than stupid, such as "soldier." The reference books below are another example of using images for your blogs and are a part of my library. In addition, the greatest example you can give to others, is to show respect by offering real wisdom to those who read your blog because it is your work and part of who you are. If it isn't your work, go to the bottom of your post and find the word Options, then check the box "This is not my content but I have permission to repost."
Two bloggers I relished and appreciated after joining ActiveRain were Lenn Harley and Lynn B. Friedman CRS Atlanta, GA 404-939-2727. To me, they were as bright as the Northern Lights guiding me best on my career path in business and ActiveRain. Others helped me by reading my blogs, commenting, or communicating directly to me by phone or in person. For example, I want to give credit to Anna Banana Kruchten Phoenix Broker. To tell the truth, I was not going to participate in this contest. I overanalyze and did not think I had anything to offer. As soon as I read Anna's entry for this challenge, I knew exactly what I would write. With one acrynom she used in my comment to hers. I knew what to do: KISS.
