Brian Traichel Mastering LinkedIn for Real Estate

This week's Zoom call was presented by Brian Traichel, and was packed and enlightening for the way LinkedIn's potential can be used to help grow our real estate business.  Over the expanse of his presentation he opened up the pages of his LinkedIn site and explained in detail how certain elements of the site should be modified and blocked to allow each to get maximum exposure and minimize the possibility of being hacked.  

Brian Traichel Mastering LinkedIn for Real EstateBrian has focused his attentions on LinkedIn since 2008, but joined in 2006. He started out by farming LinkedIn as a source for real estate  agents to get their clients to look at him for Title Insurance, which was his field at the time. He set up a search for agents in New England and through the site, found a potential resource base of 150 real estate agents. All within minutes.

He offered that he felt LinkedIn had the potential as an underused tool for outbound business development.  When people seek out agents or specifically an individual agent, if they have a LinkedIn presence it will show up near the top of a page after their web site and possibly a Google Business page.

Just having an account can hurt more than it helps, as what shows up can often be outdated and incomplete, which works against us.

He started out discussing the profile page and its 22 sections that should be completed.

Privacy Settings

At the top of the LinkedIn page is a 'mini-me' photo which allows entry to the Privacy settings.  Under settings, is a section titled visibility.  

Profile Viewing Options  This mode allows one to view a profile and not leave one's digital trail.  This should be set to Private mode so as to remain inconspicuous on the net.  There are pros and cons to this setting but to have better control over one's searches it should be clicked as Private.

Connections:  This should always be off as someone more experienced with the site can have access to our client's information.

Last area was Share Profile Updates  This should be turned off as it will send an alert to all your connections every time you post something to LinkedIn.

As he went through the call, he covered areas where we should be most detailed with our abilities as it gets attention and exposure. If we are real estate professionals and members of NAR then he strongly encourages us to use the trademarked designation, Realtor®, as it gets attention with search engines.

He had Jan Green and Debe Maxwell open u their LinkedIn sites and used the as examples with a shared screen to make changes to their LinkedIn profiles.

With Debe Maxwell, he demonstrated how her 1,800 contacts were closer to 1,000,000 connections as the algorithm the site uses adds all of here LinkedIn contacts as connections to her potentials as well.

With a few keystrokes, he was able to show how that with almost within her network 1,000,000 contacts were actually a list of potentials of almost 1,000 prospective real estate clients in Debe's market.

Thank you Brian England !  As a daily use of Linkedin, I found his information extremely helpful.  I've sold a home from Linkedin, met wonderful industry partners (sustainable architect), and I even have a zoom call next Wednesday with a new connection who is trying to move his building product to Arizona.  It's been HUGE.  So appreciate this presenter and his information.  Thanks to all!
