My Pineapple Grove

By
Real Estate Agent with TOUCHSTONE REAL ESTATE

Well maybe not a grove but they are my pineapple plants.  A neighbor turned me on to growing pineapples, one day she brought me a pineapple which I thought was strange, people don’t normally give pineapples away.  She explained she grew it and we walked to her house to see her grove, maybe 15 plants.  It was a great tasting pineapple so I decided to start my own grove.  At first glance it just looks like a green plant you would find in a flower bed.

Pineapple plants are easy, you cut the tops off, put in water for a month then plant in dirt.  I never researched how to grow them my neighbor explained the process.  Today I did research how to grow and according to some I did it wrong buy hey, they are growing!  My neighbor told me the first pineapple will take 3 years then you can expect another in about 2 years.

Currently they are in pots until my addition is completed due to construction and then will find a home in my yard.  I kind of like being a pineapple farmer as I don’t do anything for years!

Good morning Dick. My sister-in-law has lived in Florida since the 60's and just about a year ago decided to grow some pineapples. It is becoming popular. Enjoy your harvest!

How interesting! I look forward to hearing how they come out. Perhaps plant a few every year so then in three years, you'll start getting pineapples every year. How nice!

Kat Palmiotti currently my space is limited but after construction thinking adding maybe 10 arranged in a bed with other plants.  Most people here have orange, lemon and lime trees which I love.  When I first moved to Florida the place I rented had an orange tree, get up in the morning and go pick an orange for breakfast, thought this was really special after life in PA!

That is a long time to wait for pineapple but they are delicious so perhaps it is worth it.

lol I like this quote "I kind of like being a pineapple farmer as I don’t do anything for years!"

not a bad job, just requires some patience. Although nice of your neighbor to give you a homegrown pineapple given how long they take to harvest!
