I have one of the prettiest drives to the office. Along the winding road of Oak Hill is a collection of custom homes on sprawling homesites: from historic farmhouse to timeless center-hall colonials, from not-your-average rambler to 1940s bungalows, from brick Cape Cod to expansive Manor homes, from Victorian influence to American foursquare. As diverse as the architecture are the values on Oak Hill, ranging from 400K to 2 Million.
Oak Hill Road is off Rt. 198 in the Silver Spring, Spencerville, and Burtonsville triangle. Since our office - we share a building with Oak Hill construction which specializes in site development and custom home construction - is a good ways down the road, I get to enjoy the view of vintage houses and gorgeous estates every time I go in.
Oak Hill Road was designated a "Rustic Road" by Montgomery County. "Rustic Roads are historic and scenic roadways that reflect the agricultural character and rural origins of the county¹," which must be preserved.
This home sits off Oak Hill on a 4 acre homesite. It is a center hall colonial built in the 1970s. Its wood siding and popping front door very much reminds me of colonials in New England.
I'm in love with the wrap-around front porch of this American foursquare! It has all the classic features of a foursquare, besides the wide porch, a hip roof and classic dormers. Did you spot point look-out?
This is an example of one of the custom ramblers on Oak Hill. It sits back from the road on approx. 7.5 acres! We listed this beauty a few years ago. It's biggest selling feature was the massive in-law suite on the lower-level.
If you are in the market for a very special home, and are looking for space, privacy and a lovely community - the kind where everyone waves to you when you drive down the street - Oak Hill and the surrounding area may just be the perfect fit.
♥ It's always been the vintage, the old house charm and the original details that I adore the most, that draw me in, make my [REALTOR®] heart flutter, and prompt me to pause, to listen, and then to retell their stories. I specialize in finding and marketing charming homes that are unique and rich in character, or history, or both. I believe in preservation, second chances, saving the pink bathrooms, and front porch living. In this series I highlight charming homes that I am listing to find just the right buyer for or I am admiring with my special clients; or that have simply caught my eye while exploring the [historic] communities of Maryland and [far] beyond. Adore charming homes as much as I do? Then I'd love it if you'd follow me on Instagram, @onceuponahaus is where I grow my curated collection. ♥
