Eliminate a Fire Hazard by Cleaning a Dryer Vent

An often overlooked home maintenance item is the home's dryer vent. Why is cleaning a dryer vent important?

1. Eliminates (or greatly reduces) a Fire Hazard within the Home: Dryer lint has been known to catch fire when it builds up inside the vent.

2. Improves Dryer Efficiency: With a clean vent a dryer will be operate normally and improve drying times.

3. Reduces a Home's Interior Moisture Levels: Since the moist air can easily flow out the dryer vent, the interior of the home, and/or laundry area, will not experience increased moisture levels thus reduces the risk of mold and mildew.

As the video shows, the cleaning takes less than 5 minutes using the Linteater Dryer-Vent Cleaning Kit that I purchased from Lowes.

Toby, great reminder the vents need to be cleaned so not to have a fire.

I can't tell you how many people I've come across who've never cleaned their vents or filters... and have no clue about what a fire hazard that is.

Totally true, Nina. YOu've probably seen/heard this. Buyer is conducting their home inspection and inspector mentions the filter and ducts are in serious need of cleaning. Buyer request seller to clean vent and filter. Seller agrees. Buyer purchased and then becomes a seller who never cleaned the filter and vents during their ownership. Cracks me up every time.

The guy that does my chimney cleaning also does the dryer vent. I think that's definitely a must!

Chimney is definitely another home item that requires regular cleaning. Next time I list a home with a wood burning fireplace I must remember to make videos on it. Thanks for unintentional heads up, Kat.

Toby Barnett - WOW! That was a lot of lint and dirt that came out with your illustration. The cost of buying the kit is a small price to pay to do it yourself than what it comes to pay a company to do the same thing.

You did a great job! Hopefully many will be motivated to do the same.

Hey Patricia, I was really surprised and will definitely doing the cleaning regularly. The video is doing well online, the short form video has done even better, and looking forward to making more of these in the future.
