This Week…Winter Weather

This Week…Winter Weather

All good things must come to an end…at least for a while. We began the week with warm temperatures…enough that we could wear shorts. However, the winds are blowing as I write this, and the highs tomorrow will be in the 50s.

No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.
Hal Borland

I know…it’s warm compared to other areas but I suppose you could say, it’s all relevant.

What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.
John Steinbeck

Winter doesn’t officially begin until December 21 but I’m not looking at that. The date that I’m focused on is March 20, 2023…the first day of Spring.

The color of springtime is flowers; the color
of winter is in our imagination.

Terri Guillemets

This week has been a hectic one…I’m sure for everyone. I had projects scheduled each day in preparation for next week but things and people kept interfering.

There’s just something beautiful about walking on snow that nobody else has walked on. It makes you believe you’re special.
Carol Rifka Brunt, "Tell the Wolves I'm Home"

And so, a new day begins and I’ll shuffle my plans and schedule to get done what I’d planned to do this week.

Enjoy every minute of your weekend!

Good morning, Kathy... I moved to Charlotte to get away from the colder winter temperatures. We've had a cold and rainy 9-10 days with temps well under 50 degrees. This morning it's 35 degrees right now and I can tell you I'm not a happy camper.

Nina Hollander, Broker the furthest north I've lived was in Leesburg VA. I don't want to live any further north than where I am now.

Kathy Streib hi Kathy... having lived in DC for four years, I know that Virginia gets its share of snow.

50ºs can be chilly when you're used to higher temperatures so it is all relative. Funny thing about winter starting. We had our first snow on November 1-2nd (which is early for here), and the snow hasn't left the ground and it hasn't been above freezing since. So I was saying it feels as though winter is half over but it hasn't even started yet. If that happens again next year, January is going to be the time for a vacation somewhere warm!

Kat Palmiotti that's why God invented "snowbirds."  After our first winter in Leesburg, VA, I understood why many of my neighbors left in January for two months.

Hello Kathy - the upcoming winter solstice is another reminder; this too shall pass.  Whether weather is good or not-so-good, it seems to be a natural conversation-starter.

Hi Kathy,

This cold front moving from coast to coast hit us pretty hard. Since 12/13, the highest temp has been 43.5º.  It feels like walking into a meat locker when you go outside! The week before and the week after the solstice, the sun is at a 90º angle as it rises.  I have to wear sunglasses inside the house for about an hour! haha
