Getting our Christmas tree in Kalispell MT

We all have our own traditions when it comes to the holidays. And when it comes to Christmas trees, some people swear by artificial trees. Some love fresh trees. We're in the second camp, and here is how we go about getting our annual Christmas tree.

So to those who suggested that I should have gotten my tree weeks ago since all I have to do is go outside and cut one down, it's not that simple! Not only because I don't live in a Christmas tree farm with perfectly shaped trees but because almost all of those trees are up a hill and not easily accessible. And walking in a foot of snow lugging a sled with equipment in it isn't the best way to keep the Christmas spirit! haha.

So if you live in Kalispell and want to cut your own tree down, you can certainly do so! If you don't have your own trees that you can use, you can head out to the Flathead National Forest. You do need a permit if you'd like to cut down trees in the Forest so see here for information on the permit process.

Merry Christmas and happy tree hunting!

Hello Kat - Christmas tree spirit is so individual, isn't it?

In my life, I experienced growing up with real tree (from a lot, mind you no saw or sled needed), fake (before artificial became the almost acceptable term)t hat was stored away in the garage until the next year.

And, get this, a year when we had an aluminum one (long before retro became cool again). Add to that assortment, I have memories of flocked trees (white never pastel shades).   So, Christmas trees are part of my adolescence.

There have been many adult years where there was no tree in the house where I lived.  It wasn't a Bah Humbug spirit but other priorities around the holidays.  You know, life and such.

I like your tree and the story of how it can be yours' too.

Thank you Michael Jacobs - I have had years with no tree as well, and one year when my oldest son had an allergy to the tree and I had to get rid of it (before Christmas). I never had flocked trees or an aluminum one though!

Hi Kat,

Your tree is perfect!  I am imagining the smell as I write this!

I love the smell of a freshly cut Christmas Tree.  Over the last 50 years, we have done it all except going into a forest to cut one down. In the past, we cut a tree down at a Christmas tree farm, which was always a lot of fun.  It was a family affair.  We have done the artificial tree thing as well.  It is not the same.  It has been around 20 years since we had an artificial tree, but this year we decided to get one because we would be gone and couldn't keep it watered.  I am happy with the decision we made. I will probably get a fresh wreath to enjoy the smell of the pine inside the house.

I'm sure there are pine sprays we could buy to get that pine smell! It all works!

Wow, you made me appreciate unboxing my artificial tree for the 25th season LOL.

But seriously, a beautiful tree and what a scene out that window of yours!

Kat Palmiotti - you picked the perfect Christmas Tree and it sure looks lovely! Your house must smell wonderful! Loved the video and how you illustrated your point about how you arrived at your selection. Also, it was great that Hercules got to be a part of your perfect Christmas Tree hunt on your property.

In Illinois I always had a live tree. At the last place I lived before moving to TX was a Tree Farm and the last tree I cut down was with my son while my daughter was away at school. I miss those days and your video got me thinking of how exciting it was to pick and choose your own tree.

As always, you did a great job! Plus, I love where you put the tree by that great view outside your window.

Good morning, Kat... love your tree, love your little video. But that being said, I've had artificial trees for at least 25 years and I'm sticking with them. I'll just enjoy yours vicariously.

Good morning Kat. Truth be told I like a fresh Tree. That said the first year we lived in a downtown hirise we had a fresh tree and it was lovely. The holidays over we had to remove it. Let's just say it took quite some time to vacuum up the needles in the hallway. Since then artificial is the way to go. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin - I totally get it! I lived in a co-op complex for years and after the first year of getting rid of a real tree, I opted for artificial. It was just a lot easier.

Kat I have had many years of both real and artificial trees, but never a year without a tree.  These days with no little ones around it comes out of a box in one peace .... LOL
