Tuesday's Treasures: deciding comes first.

By
Real Estate Agent with Thompson Company, REALTORS® 240.593.2860 MD594797

New year's resolutions are not for me. Instead, I have goals, dreams, and ambitions. Some of which I renew on January 1st, some I adapt to changing circumstances, and then there are some that I let go of.

I choose a theme for each new year based on one of my core goals.

Some years I set the theme with intentions, other years, it just sort of finds me - as it did for 2023. A few days ago I received a package from a friend who shares my quest for self-improvement, living mindfully and with purpose, and treating our bodies and minds with love and kindness. Our gifts to one another always come from the heart and are very personal. She gets me.

This time she gifted me a set of motivational wraps which come with pendants (that can also be attached to your sneaker's laces, perfect for this REALTOR® on the Run) from Momentum Jewelry. Each pendant is engraved with a motto, or spark, a gentle reminder when things don't go as planned, doubt is whispering in your ear and wants to hold you back, or you just need to refocus on your why

Intuitively, I picked DECIDING comes first as my theme for 2023. It is my reminder to not just dream but to go after it, to change I wish to I will, or I am. Making the decision is the first step to realizing one's dreams. Growth can only happen if you decide to improve.

I have a few dreams and have decided which one will get my full attention this year. When I reflect on 2023 on December 31, I am going to say: I am so glad I made that decision!

What about you? Would you pick one of these three? Do you have a theme for 2023? Feel free to share, I'd love to hear all about it!

*Wishing you a happy, healthy, new year filled with precious moments that will turn into the best memories. May 2023 be a kind and gentle year for us all!*

P.S. I do hope there'll be many homeowners deciding to make a move this year. This market (still) needs you! Inventory levels are still very low, rates have come down from their late autumn high, and the spring market is just about to begin. Hi Andrea- I love the idea of choosing a theme for the year!  What an interesting way to add focus and intention to what you do!!

I've found setting a theme for the year more productive, more fun, and more realistic in achieving my goals Kathy Streib. I started a few years ago when I really needed to get serious about self-care and being kinder to my body. Instead of committing to losing x lbs, or saying I will go to the gym 3 times a week, I decided that the entire year was going to be about living healthier in general. That's the year I figured out I am allergic to dairy! What a difference it has made!

Good morning Andrea,

Love your idea of a theme for the year and the bands are so fun! "Deciding comes first" is a great theme. Growth can only happen if you make that decision to improve. Well done.

I like Excuses or Solutions, you decide! Not for me but for others! Too many people I know opt for excuses. Drives me nuts!!

I love that one, too, Kat Palmiotti. I have been pretty good on my follow-through. Once I decide to do something, I'm doing it - no excuses here! I'm giving it to my college-bound child as a reminder :)

Excellent post!

Andrea your friend really gets you.  To pick something so unique that repressents you, running or fitness,  is a good friend indeed! Your ideas and thoughts speak volumes.  I think the only way for a good intention to be followed throughout a year is for it to also be in writing, posted where you an see it.   Not exactly like a vision board, but almost.

New Years resolution, with good intention and follow through, can be a growth experience.  Mine is very simple this year.  Always seeking to improve upon aspects of myself, this one is to stop or limit unsolicited advice.  How often are you in conversation and someone reverts to their own insights instead of responding to you?   When others, maybe unkowningly, respond with something about themselves, it takes the focus away from the person who started the discussion.   I don't do this, but it's the same outcome.   I tend to offer up a solution when maybe someone isn't looking for a solution.  They just want to be heard.    Points to ponder!

You as well Jan!

Exactly Andrea!  We've both, most likely, been a recipient and know how that feels.  Nothing worse than being invalidated!  Have a great week

Thank you, Jan Green - Scottsdale, AZ! Self-improvement and limiting unsolicited advice sounds like a great theme to me!  I am so with you on that. Sometimes - or often - people just want somebody to listen and are hoping for compassion and understanding. I just read a great article about this a few days ago, why do so many people tend to respond with their own experiences instead of just words of compassion? It may be because the assumption is that being able to relate can be comforting or helpful. But no two experiences are ever alike, and they can actually invalidate the other person's feelings. That's anything but helpful. I've been guilty of it, too. Reading this article (I wish I could remember where it was!) really got me thinking.

Andrea, what a great post, and love DECIDING is this year's theme.   We do have choices, and making the right decision is crucial.

I love my dreams Joan Cox, but I realized that if I don't put a plan in place and take concrete actions they will remain dreams. The first step is deciding that I'd very much like to pursue them and make them come true! It's exciting!

Good morning Andrea. My intention, and I willful many times, is to "seek first to understand" before I offer my thoughts. Ponder a bit more. And, I know I will fail many times but I am going to count the successes this year. Enjoy your day.

Hi Andrea,

Kudos! This is the way to start this year.  Here is my mantra for 2023...

Find Joy In the Journey - Momentum Jewelry

Last year was my most productive year ever.  But I didn't stop to smell the roses as often as I should have.  Life is too precious not to enjoy the journey along the way.

Thank you, Sheri Sperry - MCNE®! This is a wonderful theme and intention. I'm noticing how much faster life seems to move now, and wonder which moments did I really pause to enjoy?! Has it been enough? Can I do better? Am I choosing the best, most meaningful, and most valuable moments?
