Over the years more Maine land acreage was added to the original purchase. Baxter donated his 28th deed of real estate conveyance at 87 years of age in 1962,
Dying a bachelor, Baxter left $7 million dollars to maintain the park when he passed away in 1969.
Baxter State Park stretched out over 314 square miles of pristine waterways, with hundreds of thousands of acres home to all types of Maine wildlife.
Generations flock to Baxter State Park for day and longer stays to ply the trails.
