Catchy title - yes? This is a great reminder that we need to get the title right so that our audience will click on our post and keep reading. A good title filled with information also makes it easier to find us - but why take my word for it? Keep reading! As we've all seen recently, slapping someone in a public forum can get all kinds of attention!
And while we're not advocating laying a palm upside someone's noggin, when you're blogging, step 1 is a title that catches attention.
Fact is, you can have the greatest content in the world but to paraphrase Duke Ellington, it don't mean a thing, if you ain't got that click!
Take a cruise through the ActiveRain blog roll any given day and there's a trifecta that can catch your attention:
1. The Title
2. The Featured Picture (if there is one)
3. The author
The perfect title grabs your attention.
The picture helps further your interest.
And the author's reputation may outweigh both of the other two based on past performance.
The more established (and captive) your audience, the more you can play around with your titles. If you're writing strictly for ActiveRain members, SEO be damned. You can go for the hook with your title.
But if you're writing to be found by the search bots and consumers, you need to consider what will get you found?
I regularly see missed opportunities when scanning the blog roll.
Tristate Ranch Home Sold!!! (take a look at a U.S. map and how many tristate areas can you find? I live in ONE of the many!)
Downtown Condo For Sale, You'll Love the View!!! (again, specifics about WHERE are missing)
I know it's kind of dry from a human reading perspective, but a blog post titled "Mason Ohio Beacon Hill Townhouse Sold By (insert team name)" gives you a bundle of search terms that could all help you be found (city/state, subdivision, type of home AND team name) by a consumer with direct interest in any of those terms.
So use your title to grab attention (be it human or bot)!
