How's your Peripheral Vision?

As with any aspect of vision, there are several perspectives.  Whether you're looking ahead or behind, peripheral vision plays a roll.  To get the whole picture, every view is examined when focusing on an object, plan within your field of vision. 

 

The definition of Peripheral according to Meriam Webster's Dictionary:  "of, relating to, involving, or forming a periphery or surface part"

 

But for this purpose, let's refer to peripheral marketing efforts as a vision of sorts.  Peripheral marketing speaks for itself. 

 

A reader understands  the scope of a person, project, or real estate company by what's shared and not with direct contact. 

 

When your website includes testimonials, educational information, vendor services and a blog discussing aspects of your business, this is part of your peripheral marketing.   Peripheral marketing uses a less direct approach that can offer information about you without "bragging" about how you do business. 

 

The reader receives enough information to make an educated decision of your services and expertise in business.

 

IMHO, this type of marketing is well received as the buying public is tired of being "sold."  Social media and other online media are constantly barraging the public with what they should be buying, doing, thinking, much less where to vacation.    Therefore, if a consumer can find your website or blog and peruse the information about you and your services, it's much better received than an outward request for business.  

 

It's a good idea to review your peripheral marketing and how that represents you in your location.  Whether it's a Linkedin profile, Facebook Page, Instagram, Pinterest or Twitter.   Do you have testimonials?  Does your website page one describe how you work in business?   Do you have contact information, including a phone number, on your website?  

 

A quick trick to make sure all of your marketing has your contact information is to do a "incognito" google search.  Click on the top 3 dots in a Google Chrome window and click on "icognito search."  Search for yourself and make sure every site you are listed has the correct contact information for you. 

 

When working to refer a buyer or seller, it's imperative to have easy access to contact information.  Without that being easily assessible, an agent will move on to another agent!   The quickest way to share contact information is for it to be front and center.

Hi Jan,

Great entry into the January Challenge.  I had not heard the term Peripheral Marketing, but I have been doing just that over the course of my real estate career. 

I don't like to be "sold" and I learned a long time ago not to reciprocate that to others.  I have actually had to tell those who try the hard sell approach on me not to sell a salesperson.  It is a complete turn-off.

Good for you Endre Barath, Jr. !  My granddaughter went to school in Florence, UNA, which is one of many recipients of Helen Keller's generosity!  Walking the campus and it's a beautiful school.  Did you visit?  Their mascot is a LIVE LION in a cage!  The only school I can think of with that type of live mascot!

Good for you Hannah Williams make sure to run an incognito search to find all of your marketing authentically.  Of course you can run your own search without an incognito window and you might get even more results!  Google knows your IP address and know it's you searching so they may provide you even more details.  Good luck!

Good for you Endre!  What's the saying Endre Barath, Jr. , youth is wasted on the young?!  LOL!  I so get it.  Times change and your interest in these types of things may occur later in years.  For me, it was really cool to visit this campus.  If it hadn't been for my granddaughter attending, I'd have never been there!  In Huntsville, where I lived from 91-97, my girls attended a field trip to Helen Keller's home.  It was interesting to share with them how lucky they are to have all their senses!
