This is my first post for 2023 and it took me a minute (11 days in) to write my first post. No worries though, I was tending to business and knew that I would get to this post. I always reflect on the New Year's Resolutions, goals, etc. knowing these things are important yet, not stressing over choosing the perfect word for the year or that must-do resolution.
We have all come off some very interesting years! 2020 met us with a worldwide shutdown, fear of a new and strange disease, mask-wearing or not mask-wearing, and on and on it went. 2021 was a year of simply trying to piece it all back together. 2022 had us on a roller coaster with the economy, rising interest rates, and a scrambling and re-organization time for our businesses in real estate.
As I have pondered these past few years, the word that comes to mind more than any is FEAR. The media, social media, market strategists, and economists have elevated FEAR into almost everyone's minds. It appears that we all are being fed a good dose of FEAR on a daily basis.
I am determined to NOT live in FEAR. It is simply not good for the soul and saps you of your joy and your ability to reach your goals. So, how do you conquer FEAR? Well, like eating an elephant, one bite at a time.
Here are some tried and true strategies to overcome FEAR:
1. Identify what are the things in your life that cause you to FEAR. Write them down. Understanding the triggers will enable you to clearly recognize those times when the FEAR is rearing its ugly head.
2. Replace those fear triggers with the exact opposite emotion. Your FEAR is robbing you of your joy so turn to the things that bring you joy. Be determined that nothing can steal your happiness. It is truly beautiful to know that you do have the power to fall into FEAR or to lead with joy.
3. Empower yourself with a healthy mindset. FEAR actually drains you of your energy and vitality. When you say NO to FEAR, you really are empowering yourself to say YES to a new you. What is in between your ears truly does determine who you are. And, YOU have the ability to control how you will respond to all things in your life. And yes, life will throw a lot at you as you know but, you can control how you will react.
For me in 2023 - FEAR will not rule my life. I will not cave into the naysayers, the negative Nellies, and the FEAR-mongering media. Here's to you for 2023 which is joyful, hopeful, and peaceful. It really is up to you.
