Who else is nuts for Nutella? Nutella even has its own "day" on Feb. 5th.
My son Mo absolutely loves Nutella. Nutella crepes, Nutella on toast, Nutella on pancakes-or straight Nutella straight out of the jar. Me, I have to be in the mood for the creamy chocolate hazelnut treat. For fun, here's a brief history of Nutella and World Nutella Day on February 5th.
First introduced in Italy in 1964, Nutella is popular throughout the world. The cocoa-hazelnut treat was first made by Ferrero. If you've ever tasted a Ferrero Roche, you've sampled the flavor of Nutella. The company founder's son introduced the stand-alone jarred treat Nutella for sale in 1966.
The first World Nutella Day was held in 2007. Surprisingly it wasn't initiated by the company, but instead by Nutella enthusiast and blogger Sara Rosso. Each year Nutella maker Ferrero selects one Nutella lover to lead the February 5th celebration. In 2017, the first Nutella Cafe opened at Chicago's Magnificent Mile.
