Living in Soquel, California from a Local's Perspective

By: Jessica Wallace, Your Santa Cruz Realtor

Soquel, California is a small coastal town located in Santa Cruz County. It is known for its picturesque scenery, friendly community, and close proximity to the beach. With a population of around 9,000 people, and it's a great place to call home for those looking for a quieter, more relaxed lifestyle. I grew up in the Soquel & Capitola area an attended local schools such as Soquel High School.

One of the things I love most about living in Soquel is the sense of community. The town is small enough that you get to know your neighbors and see familiar faces around town. The local businesses also play a big role in creating a tight-knit community. Many of them are family-owned and operated, and they often sponsor community events or donate to local causes. Soquel Village also has a large amount of Antique Shops, it is a wonderful place to go antiquing.

Another perk of living in Soquel is its proximity to the beach. The town is just a few minutes drive from some of the most beautiful beaches in California. I often find myself spending my free time at New Brighton State Beach, which is just a short drive from my house. The beach is perfect for long walks and sea glass hunting. Capitola Village is just minutes away, one of the best beach towns in all of California.

Soquel is also home to a variety of outdoor activities. The town is located in the Santa Cruz Mountains, which offer miles of hiking and biking trails. The nearby Nisene Marks State Park is a great place to explore the towering redwoods, walk your dog or go mountain biking on world class trails

The town also has a variety of good restaurants and coffee shops. One of my favorites is Gayle's Bakery & Rosticceria, which serves delicious homemade pastries and sandwiches. Another is Home Restaurant, which is great for a special occasion or just a casual night out and is in my Top 5 Best Restaurants in Santa Cruz county.

While Soquel is a small town, it is also conveniently located near larger cities such as Santa Cruz and Monterey. This makes it easy to enjoy the benefits of small-town living while still having access to the amenities of a larger city.

Overall, Soquel is a great place to call home. The community is friendly and welcoming, the natural beauty is breathtaking, and there is always something to do. I feel lucky to call this place my home and I look forward to many more years living here.
