In 1990 the residents of New Castle, located in Lawrence County heard the announcement that their hometown was named “Fireworks Capital ofAmerica”. Celebration and excitement was in order. Welcome signs and banners lined the streets. To continue the celebration, the Fireworks Capital of America committee sponsors annually a fireworks festival each July. The festival includes something for everyone, including free family entertainment, live music, street dancing, wonderful ethnic foods, the ducky derby and of course the finale…… FIREWORKS!
Our claim to fame as fireworks Capital of America" all started back in 1886 when Leopold Fazzoni
emigrated to New Castle and started Fazzoni Brothers Fireworks Company.
In 1895 Paul Rozzi settled in New Castle to work with Fazzoni and soon opened his own company, Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks
Constantino Vitale learned the trade of manufacturing fireworks from Rozzi and found the Vitale Fireworks Manufacturing Company in Italy. In 1922 Vitale brought his company to New Castle.
In 1994 the name of Vitale Fireworks Manufacturing Company was changed to Pyrotecnico.
Antonio Zambelli worked for Fazzoni Fireworks and in the late 1940’s Zambelli purchased the Fazzoni’s business and renamed it Zambelli Internationale. As we all know the rest is history
When these Italian families emigrated to America and brought their love of fireworks with them, they brought to the residents of New Castle a share in their contribution to the world. A love of fireworks flourishes in America and because of them we can share in their glory.
